Eight years have passed since the first election of Thomas Jefferson. Despite Federalist claims, he has not banned the Bible, he has not led the nation to unwinnable war with France, and rape is not legal. As well, the President has recently expanded the nation greatly through the Louisiana Purchase. Nevertheless, the Federalists have continued their attacks on the President. Most recently, his decision to run for an un-thought of third term has been met with considerable criticism by his partisan opponents. Even members of his own party have been heard grumbling, most notably Senator Aaron Burr, Governor George Clinton, and Secretary of State James Monroe. Nevertheless, Campaign '04 has begun, and facing the two-term President is former United States Minister to France Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a military hero of the revolution and a loyal partisan. Whom will you choose?

If you change history so that Pinckney is elected in 1804, there may be disastrous consequences, boy!

President Jefferson wins re-election by a whopping land-slide.

The 1804 United States Presidential Election
In an incredible mandate despite Federalist opposition, President Jefferson was swept into a third term. Pinckney, despite receiving 13 electoral votes, would fail to win a majority of the popular vote in any of the states where the electors were decided based on popular vote. However, he would win one electoral district in North Carolina thanks to a strong Federalist machine there (the popular vote was actually quite close in the state despite the Republican strength in the South, and Jefferson barely won it). Despite this massive land-slide, his third term would prove his toughest.

President Thomas Jefferson (Democratic Republican-Virginia)/Governor George Clinton (Democratic Republican-New York) 163 electoral votes, 76.7% of the popular vote
Former U.S. Minister to France Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (Federalist-South Carolina)/Former U.S. Minister to Great Britain Rufus King (Federalist-New York) 13 electoral votes, 23.3% of the popular vote

Jefferson won Rhode Island, as he did in RL 1804.
