After sixteen years out of power, the Republicans are hoping to finally reclaim the White House. There are five main candidates, a number of them notable for their service in the military, mostly during the Reconstruction era. As well, John Sherman, one of the nation's great legislators, and Frederick Douglass, the former Vice President and civil rights activist, are candidates.

Sherman. Let's move beyond the legacy of the Civil War.

Great idea, we need to end the oppression for everyone through economic democracy.

Again, remember the fact that the Civil War happened 12 years early ITTL. Harrison and Gresham could have been veterans, but being very young adults at the time, certainly weren't officers. Alger was too young to serve at all.

EDIT: Voted for Harrison, but Sherman is also acceptable.

I've modified it to state "Reconstruction era".

Frederick Douglass is an awesome man, completely above and beyond any of these other candidates.

That's all good and true, but we are trying to prevent the split of left-wing vote yet again.

The Greenbacks aren't fielding a candidate.

Anyway, I voted for Douglass. Let's elect our first black president! Also, Rochester Proud!

He's probably talking about Alson Streeter.

Anyways, I voted Douglass. If he wasn't running I'd probably vote strategically so Streeter could have a chance of winning, but he is running. So Douglass '88!

Oh. I just assume you need a convention to be in the election (though the PP didn't have one last time, so...). I'm still voting for Douglass.
