The share of Swedes who think the country should take fewer refugees is up from 30 to 42% in new poll, but there is still 26% in favour of taking more refugees.

http://www.dn.se/nyheter/sverige/valjarna-vander-i-flyktingfragan-1/

Also interesting that there is still a 37% plurality for taking more refugees among Social Democrats (26% for fewer). The Liberal Folkpartiet also has a majority, whereas Centre voters are now mostly against it.

The gender gap is huge, there is almost a tie among women (34 less/33 more), but a clear 51/19 majority for fewer refugees among men. "Less" leads "more" among all age groups above 30 and increases with age.

Welcome to the forum.

Interesting to see the difference between official party position and voters when it comes to the Centre Party and the People's Party. (Though not that strange considering traditional voter base)

Also I can't help but wonder who the 2% SD sympathizers who wants to take more refugees are... Tongue

Not really Sweden Democrats, just trolling the pollsters? Seems the most likely explanation. Tongue

Or they think taking more in would help the party at the polls? Of course it would nonetheless be rather odd to then voice that position in a poll.

@People making a big deal out of Wallström happening to wear a necklace that she's worn in several interviews and official pictures for at least a year judging from a quick Google search:

So it's official, the Liberal People's Party, commonly called just the People's Party in Swedish (Folkpartiet) is changing its name to the Liberals (Liberalerna) at their party conference this weekend. Jan Björklund said that this is part of the "largest political renewal process in the party's history", although apparently that renewal process doesn't include getting a new leader.

So, now Sweden has raised the country's terror threat level with the revelation that there is a 25-year old ISIS member in the country who, according the the security services, is actively plotting a terrorist attack. Apparently he was able to travel from Syria to Sweden through the rest of Europe without anyone stopping him. Thanks, Schengen!

A complete non-entity threatened to break the law and was immediately arrested. How was such an enormous threat allowed in the country? Thanks, Schengen!

It looks like the security service has messed up quite badly. The guy appears to have been rather public about his location (on facebook etc.), still it took two days to find him. And now he has been released. So, either they simply took the wrong guy, and someone planning a terror attack is still at large, or they thought that with so much going on they should do something as well, without having much to go by. Not sure which alternative is the most likely or the most worrying.

The Swedish Red-Green Government held a press conference this afternoon, introducing several new measures to restrict and limit the high number of refugees. The new measures that will be introduced are the following:

• The Aliens Act will be adjusted so that Sweden accepts the EU minimum level of refugees. This will apply for three years.

• The right to family reunification will be subject to a very strict time limit.

• The ages of all unaccompanied children will be medically verified.

• All new asylum seekers will be given temporary residence permits only. Exceptions will be made for children and families who registered before the new rules are introduced.

• ID checks will be enforced on all modes of public transport to Sweden.

Green Deputy Prime Minister Åsa Romsson cried during the press conference. This is a 180 from their very liberal migration policy.

I need some more information on these two.

Does this mean that Sweden will only accept the EU minimum, which I assume, or does it mean that Sweden will at least accept the minimum?

What? She perfectly knows than doing that will cause her to lose her Green leader job soon. I don't see Green members backing for long after that.

This government is almost criminally incompetent. Claiming that all is fine and then suddenly reversing completely is extremely poor management.

Seriously?

You don't think:

has anything to do with it?

This is obviously a rather horrible decision, but one that has been forced upon us by the medieval attitudes of most other European countries.

It is clearly very controversial within the party. However, the Greens have no history of removing their spokespeople, so I would be surprised if that happens.

Finally, even the top Green politicians in the countries most affected seem to "get it".

Days after Romson cried while announcing that Sweden is bursting and needs to shut its doors, even some top Austrian Greens like Peter Pilz (!) and Gabi Moser (!) are now calling for upper limits and flawless registrations of refugees at the border:

Episode 99 in the series named "the Swedish government's car crash foreign policy". Undoubtedly, many will follow.

We have a foreign policy, and it has been quite a while since we had that last time (and something that many countries lack). It will annoy the leadarship of some countries like Israel, Saudiarabia, Russia etc. So?

I do. And you can note that at the point where your graph ends, after that rise, the government was still insisting that it was all fine and there was no limit to how many refugees we could take. They were obviously lying to the people when they said that and just lying without a strategy is very unimpressive IMO.

It's also contributing to the complete insanity in terms of "solutions" we're seeing produced now.

Was the stabber or victim Swedish? If not why was its the Swedish PM's business whether the stabbing was a common crime or a terror attack?
