58-40-1.  So unless someone walks in now, it failed.
MSNBC says 59-39-1. Orrin Hatch I believe voted Present. I thought you needed 40 to filibuster

You need 60 to break a filibuster.

Reid probably feels like a idiot for not pushing for filibuster reforms.

How are the prospects for sloughing off one more of these yahoos by Tuesday? For that matter, who was it who didn't vote?

They miscounted.

And Reid misspoke - it is NEXT Tuesday.

Alexander has said he'd vote for cloture at least next week.

So did Graham, and Reid voted no for procedural reasons.

Right - Reid would've been why it was changed from 59-58.

So we are effectively in a position where holding on through the holiday should be enough to get Hagel confirmed.

I of course assume this will actually proceed and today's idiocy (the number of votes with which, I should point out, John effing Ashcroft was confirmed US Attorney General--I know the context of a cloture vote isn't the same but still...) doesn't mean the nomination has been stillborn, right?--right?

Lol@GOP filibustering a nominee of their own party. They will stop at nothing to filibuster everything.

A great day for the Republic. I'm so happy the serious Senator from Pennsylvania announced his opposition to this joke.

Fun fact: I organized the counter rally in Philly when Hagel endorsed Sestak. Smiley

Yeah, John Kerry (of all people!) gets little Republican opposition but the concerns over Hagel aren't serious and are just hackery. Yep. Solid point.

So the Republicans are arguing that this wasn't a filibuster, yet even FOX News calls it that: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/02/14/republicans-filibuster-hagel-confirmation-as-benghazi-battle-intensifies/

Hatch voted Present; who didn't vote? If it was 59-39-1, someone didn't vote. (I know it was actually 58-40, but that's because Reid voted No so he can reintroduce.)

John Kerry was hand picked by the GOP for his fail stench. It was absurd that Obama went along with their game and it's absurd that you are making the comparison.

You're both being ridiculous. John Kerry is an excellent pick by any non-hackish measure, and there's no evidence he wouldn't have been Obama's choice even without Benghazi. Hagel is being opposed because he's been the subject of a years'-long character defamation by the uberhawks in his party.

What I want to know is what in God's name Benghazi has to do with Hagel or anything related to him. It's so transparently just the new excuse for whatever the Republicans don't feel like doing, at least in the bailiwick of foreign/defense policy. I can't recall a similar excuse that became so unbelievably irritating and craven so quickly at any time in recent history, though of course such things are inevitably subjective.
