I have long believed there will be a huge push to have a woman on the Democratic Ticket in 2016.  Politico now holds that this is the conventional wisdom:

Yep, I've been saying this for a while. They will make sure they have a female Presidential candidate in 2016. Almost definitely Clinton, Warren, or Gillibrand.

It's their best chance at recapturing the same excitement they had in 2008, which they'll need if Christie gets the GOP nom.

I hope this is their driving thought, because a Warren candidacy would, IMO, be pretty weak.

I feel the same.

If Clinton runs, I'm looking forward to seeing her rejoin the national conversation. She has largely been out of domestic politics since mid-2008, and at that time her career was in a state of flux and transition. I'm looking forward to seeing what she has to say over the next four years. She's likely going to be taking some time off to figure that out for herself, until then.

As much as I'd personally like Warren for president, she has about as much chance as Santorum. She loses  if the GOP nominates someone sane. Surely the dems must know this.

Klobuchar appears to be more likely to run than either Gillibrand or Warren.  For Gillibrand, the big question is whether Cuomo running would dissuade her from running or not.

Placing a woman on the ticket would certainly help the Dems in 2016 if Obama's second term is as mediocre as his first term.

Gillibrand clearly has the most appeal.

It's a shame that Cuomo and Gillibrand are from the same state. Gillibrand is my favorite possible Democratic candidate.

Shame all the Democratic women candidates are HPs. Clinton, Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Warren (don't know about Sebelius but lean HP because of Obamacare).

Do the Republicans have any female candidates? The only ones I can think of as possible are Susana Martinez, Nikki Haley, Sarah Palin, and Michele Bachmann

So I just missed Ayotte (won't happen), Fallin (won't happen), and Rice (likely won't happen).

Susana Martinez is the only viable female candidate for the GOP. Maybe a case could be made for Kelly Ayotte.

Viable for the general election, yes. Her decision to expand Obamacare to her state will be a liability in the bizarro-world GOP primary.

It depends on the climate. If odds are against the Democrats anyway, there's the argument that it's better to lose with the first female general election candidate than with another white guy.

Michelle O needs to pull a Lurleen Wallace and be a figure head for Barack's 3rd term, could you imagine the bigots and the tea-party heads exploding. LOL

Democrats could push the War on Women for as long as they want to if this happened, and do it quite effectively.
