Some decent ideas. Too far for me, though.

Basically an epic fail. I enjoyed reading The Fountainhead however.  Adventures in edgy architecture is always good. Smiley

Most of her philosophy seems to be an attack on strawman interpretations of their opposing views and in praise of values that defy human nature.  Anthem was a decent read, though.

I don't think she's right about much but I did enjoy reading Atlas Shrugged. Strangely despite the ideological issues, I really liked the plot: her struggle to keep the railroad company alive and well. It did get old after the first 400 pages or so though.

I think Rand the person was a wonderful woman who was by the most intelligent American author I have been blessed to read. As for Objectivism, I cannot say I care for it too much. I can reconcile some her beliefs to my faith, but not many. I have read all of her novels, Anthem, the Fountainhead, Atlas, and my personal favorite, We the Living. I am currently reading her letters. Leonard Peikoff had them organized. They are very insightful, and you can see the personality change from optimistic, happy, and very enthusiastic before Atlas, and the change after Atlas was published, in which she became bitter, disillusioned, and frankly, alone.  I look forward to reading Barbara Branden’s “The Passion of Ayn Rand.” I had just watched her a few weeks earlier at a symposium in the 1990’s talking about Rand, and her personal life and mental state.

I actually found it finally get interesting somewhere in the middle. The only reason I haven't finished it now is because of the damned 100 page speech that comprises part of the end.

I pushed through it during Career Research class Tongue. I think I got 80% of it done. Well worth the read, even though it is the longest thing you will ever read. It took two years alone to write the speech.

Warmed-over third-rate Nietzsche for people who fancy themselves robber barons.

Though I've heard good things about We The Living, as it is supposedly grounded in actual humanity, rather than an ever-increasing bonfire of strawmen and "pure logic" that is anything but.

I think she goes too far when she stops saying "the state is doing bad things" and switches to "greed is good". I'm all for getting the state out of welfare, but getting the private individual out of it? C'mon.

This.
This, but I liked Nietzsche when I really grasped what he was saying, even if I didn't agree with it in certain places, like Machiavelli, which is a fun read.

Can't say I agree with her, but she was an interesting woman with an interesting perspective and was worthy of being listened to.  The extent to which she pushed the "screw everyone else" mindset is a bit disturbing, but I can't help but think she is misunderstood.

Neutral.
