Always impressed to see a place like Elliott County stick with Democrats, even when other places like it abandoned the party years ago. More than anything I guess it intrigues me. What convinces people there to keep voting Dem, even as Democrats sometimes seem to go against their cultural sensibilities?

Poverty+labor (a factor in Obama's drop in WV/KY may have been that the UMW declined to endorse anyone this year).

The other county which has never voted Republican (Brooks, Texas) is also very poor, though it's Latino, not Scots-Irish.

The results are going to be flipped around in 2016 if this poll is conducted again.

With the GOP's ongoing collapse, I don't think we're ever going to see them win Elliott County.

Any white Dem will easily win 60%+ in Elliot. Even somebody closely aligned with the current administration like Biden or Hillary Clinton. Against Rubio, a white Dem would be pushing 75%.

The white Democrat who's nominated in 2016 will win it with at least 60%.

I would consider it prudent of Republicans to believe so, prudent of Democrats to believe the writing is on the wall and they have further to fall in Appalachia if they're not careful.

FC, regardless of whether they vote for Clinton or Trump. I have nothing against them for voting their economic interest, whether it's for Obama or for Trump.

Unlike most other eastern KY counties who voted for Bevin, Elliott will vote for someone who will protect their health care.

given current trends though I wouldn't be surprised if Trump is the one to break it's long streak in this election.

Rowan County, KY (the home county of jailbird Kim Davis) is a much bigger FF county due to the fact that it voted for Jim Gray, an openly gay man.
