North Carolina, easily. It has its flaws, but SC has far more.

NC, though SC is one of the better deep southern states. I  admit to having some respect for them for sticking with Strom Thurmond for so long.

Boo, Strom Thurmond!!!!

Oh, South Carolina, you have given America some of the sleaziest politicians in history:

-Senator Fritz Hollings (D-South Carolina), in 1993

Not to mention the aforementioned Strom Thurmond, as well as Dick Harpootlian, Jim DeMint (ideology hack), and Jim Hodges.

Obviously, North Carolina is the correct answer.

My home state of course!

SC has some decent beaches and high school football teams though.

Charleston beats anything in NC.

True.  Myrtle Beach and T.L. Hanna come to mind for me.

North Carolina.

Charleston is really the only thing SC has going for it.

As a South Carolinian (so admittedly biased), I think we have some of the most polite and friendly people in the United States, as well as one of the most beautiful cities in the world (Charleston). I understand however that our state and local politics are so amazingly corrupt that I can understand why a lot of 'outsiders' have a bad idea about us.

North Carolina, very easily. Even the least pleasant parts of NC are nothing compared to inland SC.
