With the Democrats having been taken over largely by pro-silver forces at various state conventions, an exodus of pro-gold Bourbon Democrats has convened to nominate an alternative to what looks to be a choice between agrarians and Republicans. A number of potential nominees are being put forward.

Also by this point, Cleveland is missing part of his jaw... that probably reduces his effectiveness as president if re-elected.

IIRC his prosthesis let him speak and look as before. It certainly won't reduce his effectiveness as VP Smiley

Agreed.

But I'm curious as to whether I'm missing something on Vilas. Granted, none of the other candidates really stand out, but what I've found on Vilas doesn't overly impress me either. What is making him so popular.
