http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/Arkansas%20Tops1.pdf

Their full crosstabs will be out later, but here are some key things.

Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Dustin McDaniel?

Favorable: 25%
Unfavorable: 40%
Net Favorability: -15%

In the November general election in 2014, the
two candidates for governor may be the
Republican Asa Hutchinson and the Democrat
Dustin McDaniel. If the election were held
today, would you vote for?

Hutchinson: 46%
McDaniel: 33%

...Is it still possible Mike Ross might get in? Or some other decent candidate?

I agree. He'd win the nomination in a cakewalk (I can't think of any other strong Democrats who might run, but other people know Arkansas politics much better than I do) and while he would probably trail Hutchinson at the beginning, he'd be much closer and be able to define himself better to the voters of Arkansas.

After seeing, this poll though, I think this race leans Republican, at least.

I was of the impression that Bill Halter was considered a raging Liberal- is that true or does he have a good profile for Arkansas?

What's interesting is that the areas of Arkansas that trended Democratic where the areas where Obama bled most in 2008; I assume he's hit rock bottom for a Democrat there. Arkansas trended Republican this year (barely) because of growth in the more affluent northwest part of the state.

For a long time it has been accepted as gospel on here that McDaniel was a proverbial god on earth who would just walz into what ever he ran for. Was that mistaken?

Without the scandal, probably so.

Though, as I was telling RogueBeaver, I'm amazed that Beebe's popularity doesn't seem to be helping Democrats here as much as I thought it would.

Will you please cut out the anti-Southern bigotry?  People in the South don't hate Obama because he's black, they hate him because he's a big government liberal who is woefully out of touch with most Southerners.  Granted, this is a PPP poll, and an early one at that, but I don't know whether to be jubilant or morose when I see this poll.

Right.  It's only Democrats that hate Obama because he's black because, you know, they're Democrats.

That's not what I was saying.  I meant Southerners in general, but especially Southern Republicans, oppose Obama because he's a big-government liberal, not because he's black.  I meant nothing about Democrats by that statement.
