Most of these groups would be Democratic. Even doctors (since the Republicans hate science).

The only exception is school principals. I don't think I've ever had a principal who wasn't an extreme right-winger. The most right-wing people I've ever met in my life were school principals.

I'm guessing psychologists would be strong D, while psychiatrists would be strong R.

I agree with you that most of the groups would vote Democratic, though I disagree with doctors. Pretty much every doctor I know is a right-winger. The AMA is a rather right-wing organization, too.

Firefighters - how their union tells them to vote; sometimes they endorse Republicans, sometimes they endorse Democrats depending on the candidates and the area in question

Cooks - if the cook is also the owner of the restaurant, Republican if he's white, Democrat if anything else; if the cook is not the owner of the restaurant, Democrat (assuming they're a citizen)

Pizza Delivery Guys - lean Democratic

Bus Drivers - strongly Democratic

Doctors - toss-up; depends more on their ethnicity and religion (the white ones will tend to be Republican like Ron Paul and the various fundie Republican MDs in the House; the Asian ones will tend to be more Democratic)

Tech Workers - what is a "tech worker"? If we're talking about the engineers who work at Google and Apple, then Democratic. If we're talking about the small business IT guy in flyover country with a certificate in server maintenance, then Republican.

News - leans Democratic

Musicians - leans Democratic

Psychologists - strong Democratic

Principals - leans Democratic

Social Workers - strong Democratic

Does Minnesota count as "flyover country"? Because if so that's definitely not true.

Someone who lives in the Minneapolis suburbs and is an independent IT contractor in all likelihood voted for Romney. In fact, I'd wager money that he did.

I'm thinking of how the IT people at my job, along with the management for that matter, are pretty blatantly not Republicans (things like having a bet and the loser has to wear a McCain/Palin shirt the next day). Maybe this is due to them not living in the actual suburbs.

Probably. But my point is that speaking of "tech workers" as an economic voting bloc or interest group is useless because it's such a broad umbrella term that you can't make any real inferences about the people it includes. It would be like speaking of the political leanings of "healthcare workers" - which could theoretically include everyone from a surgeon to the RN that assists him to the high school-educated woman at the front desk who answers the phone to the bookkeeper who cuts all of them their paychecks.

Firefighters - 50/50, quite a few are Reagan Democrats I imagine.
Cooks - lean D
Pizza Deliver guys - lean D
Bus drivers - lean D
Doctors - center-right to center-left. I imagine that a lot of doctors are conservative economically but with a paternalist streak on "public health" issues. Basically "keep my taxes low so no universal health care, but micromanage poor people to keep health care costs down."
Computer tech workers - lean D, sizeable libertarian minority
Local news reporters - depends on the region 50/50
Musicians - likely D
Psychologists - likely D
School principals - staunch R
Social workers - almost all D

According to some people we live in a one party state so I guess they all vote 105% Democratic.

You'd have to be at least 48 to have voted for Reagan today, so I doubt there's that many.

Sounds about right. It's hard to imagine a Republican musician except for country or contemporary Christian (and even there exceptions exist).

School principals would not be that Republican - not when Republicans have more or less declared war on their "industry." Maybe the principal of a private evangelical Christian school is Republican, but there aren't that many of those.

30% of social workers voting Republican also seems a bit high. At Baylor, the School of Social Work tended to be a very liberal place, both in terms of the faculty and the students; if they were liberal, I'd imagine the ones at more liberal schools would be even moreso.

Physicians tend to lean more R but this breaks down further into subsections (and even then, there is overlap):

1) Specialists are more R, primary care physicians less so
2) Regional differences exist
3) Women physicians more D
4) Academics much more D than those in private practice--and this is where you start to have some fights between those "in the trenches" and those "in the ivory tower."
