Iowa, just because it isn't ruled by one county.

I like both, but that one county in Illinois is much better then any in Iowa.

Illinois wins on account of Chicago. I can't say Illinois outside of Chicagoland is appealing in the least bit.

Illinois has a major city, Iowa doesn't.

Illinois because my girlfriend is from there, I absolutely love Chicago, and it partially produced (with some help from my home state Wink) Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama.

Edge Iowa because my girlfriend's dad is from there + it's a pretty nice state. Illinois has a great music scene, though.

Both excellent states, among the greatest in the nation, but I vote Illinois.  I used to have relatives there that I visited regularly (before they moved South), and I love Chicago.  The politicians from both states, however, are awesome.  Illinois, however, gave us our greatest president, and possibly our greatest politician, of all time: Abraham Lincoln (who was also a Republican! Wink )
