Article.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has the opposite of its intended effect.

That's a pretty dumb ad since no one is talking about banning the types of guns he showed in that ad.

No, it's pretty dumb that they're running it in a district that has an R+9 PVI. What exactly do they think this'll accomplish?

Either it's:

a) dumb or
b) super 11-dimensional chess smart because Barrow will continue being pro-gun and this will allow him to draw a clear distinction between him and the liberals, which will endear him to conservative voters, which will allow him to continue getting elected in an R+9 district, which will pay dividends if the House ever gets close to flipping, because he may not be a vote for gun control but it's more important that he's not a vote for John Boehner, which he won't be.

I think it is probable that no matter who is elected in 2014 in GA-12 would not be voting for Boehner.

What a horrible, ill ad. I don't want to hear liberals whining about the NRA ad that mentions Obama's children unless they're also criticizing this. This is far worse.

On a political note, there goes our chances of picking up this seat in 2014.

More eerily good psychological advertising from the Democrats. Just like Claire McCaskill got Missouri Republicans to subconsciously pick the worst candidate possible to run against her, ads like this will provide cover to red state Democrats.

If Obama cut an attack ad against Mary Landrieu next year saying she was a right-wing crazy who went against everything he stood for, she'd probably get reelected in a landslide.

No, because I doubt the Republicans will be voting for Boehner for Speaker in 2015. Tongue

I think this ad is actually a serious effort to try to get grassroots support to encourage Barrow to change his opinion, because the ad isn't ineffective enough to be a good ploy and a bit of research shows that this group definitely seems to be led by insular inside-the-Beltway types. Barrow is too smart to flip-flop though. On any other issue he can side with the party if his vote is needed, but gun control is the one thing that would absolutely kill him in his district.
