Is Ed Mangano (Nassau County Executive) a credible GOP challenger to Gov. Cuomo? I believe he is because he would be a major threat in Long Island.  Your thoughts?

No way.  Mangano isnt even popular in Nassau county.  Even if he did carry Long Island(he probably wouldnt), Cuomo would still get 80% of the Vote in NYC and at least 55% everywhere else.

I think Cuomo is about as indestructible as Chris Christie right now.

LOL, Mangano would get  DEMOLISHED in the state and here in Nassau also.  He might not even win re-election this year.

More indestructible because Cuomo has a built-in advantage as a Democrat.

Cuomo is completely unbeatable in the general election. He was actually kind of vulnerable to a primary until he laid out his new agenda. He can begin planning his Presidential campaign now.

He ran Nassau into the ground, look at their budget situation.

He was never vulnerable to a Primary, even with the grumbling on some online forums his numbers have been through the roof across the board.

The only person who could defeat Governor Cuomo is Jimmy McMillian, but I doubt he could get through a GOP primary.

Lord no. Cuomo is probably the hardest governor to take out. Running against him is like running against someone with Christie's record in one of the reddest states in the country.

Maybe if he tried to improve on his campaign videos?

Running against Cuomo as a Republican is like running as a Democrat in Utah.

There is no credible challenger to Cuomo. I mean, I guess Rudy Giuliani could give him a run for his money and maybe pull an upset, but Cuomo is too darn popular.

Yeah, the general should be in the bag for Cuomo baring any sort of Spitzer-style scandal before then.  I do hope Schneiderman challenges him in the primary, though.

Donald Trump's name has been floated, and incredibly, this article indicates that the state party's leadership was involved and names names. Normally I'd assume a trial balloon by Trump, but that's not how it looks.

Cuomo would win reelection BIG, around 72ish percent in 2014, catapult him towards a possible White House bid in 2016 or maybe a bid for the United States Senate down the road.

A bid for U.S. Senate against whom?  Gillibrand and Schumer aren't going anywhere.  Gillibrand is 46.  Schumer is 62.

Cuomo will have to decide what political future is next: White House bid in 2016 even though he has zero chance (but that's what folks said about Obama in 2008, and he proved everyone WRONG).

This. Cuomo's going to stay governor until he becomes president, gets voted out, or gets a cushy cabinet job. I could easily see him as AG in a Hillary Clinton administration.

Mangano is way up in the latest poll for Nassau Exec.  there's no way the NYGOP can get a candidate of even his caliber to run.  expect a Rick Lazio-esque retread.

If Harry Wilson had won NY Comptroller, he might be viable, but right now, he'd be another loser in this scenario.
