Mangano is way up in the latest poll for Nassau Exec.  there's no way the NYGOP can get a candidate of even his caliber to run.  expect a Rick Lazio-esque retread.

Meh, its the same poll that had Suozzi up 23 weeks before election day in 09

Mangano is a very streong recruit for this Lean D race i know new yorkers bliekth e democraps because they want free boats and iphone 5s from obama and pelosi and dsaschle but soe wille realize that the constitution is more impt and vote for mananagano normally id say he must be primaried that rino but in neew york i might be willing to take it except if carl paladino runs he will probably win in the primary and general

Westchester County Exec. Rob Astorino may challenge Cuomo.

I like Cuomo, but it'd be interesting if New York Republicans put up a decent candidate and knocked off a Presidential contender. I bet Democrats are secretly hoping Cuomo loses.

Republicans aren't going to beat Cuomo.  Maybe they'll hit 30% if they nominate a strong candidate.

What Republicans really should do is nominate Cuomo on their ballot line.  That, along with Cuomo's essentially Republican policies, would sink him as a contender for the nomination.

This would definitely improve my image of Cuomo:

Hochul's loss last year was a heartbreaker (so close too!) I hope he picks her.

I like this idea. If Cuomo was elected president (or more likely picked for Hillary's cabinet), Hochul could fill in for him. Would she be NY's first female governor if that happened?

Donald Trump says he won't run for the Republican nomination for Governor and has "much bigger plans in mind", hinting a potential 2016 run for President and simultaneously calling the NY GOP "dysfunctional."

With this then, Cuomo is likely to face already declared Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino who scared off Trump since Trump didn't want a primary challenger. That and he probably figured out that he can't buy himself the Albany Governor's Mansion. The Conservative Party has already endorsed Astorino and Paladino said he won't run for the Conservative nomination like he had planned if Astorino ran, but will still have very little effect on this race since Cuomo's polling in the 60s against Astorino. Safe D for sure.

She was my congresswoman, and I was horrified when she lost. You have no idea what it's like being represented by Chris Collins.

So it looks like Cuomo will be beating Astorino instead of Trump in a landslide this November

Thread Title changed to reflect that Ed Mangano isn't running and that Rob Astorino is (and is the only GOP candidate).

Cuomo keeps my support and would have my vote. If he ran to govern the country like did New York, I'd support him over most Republicans. He's done a great job, if most Democrats were like him the GOP would be dead politically.

If only because having two right-wing parties would be redundant.

I don't think his statement is true though. Cuomo is essentially a true conservative without all the baggage associated with reactionary right wing politics. All those reactionaries need to go somewhere, and Cuomo isn't nearly racist/sexist/homophobic enough for them.

They'd go somewhere, but Cuomo closes off any path to victory for them nationwide.
