Is there any way the mods can move and attach this thread to the existing Virginia redistricting thread (which I just bumped) in the Political Geography and Demographics board?

So how's krazen going to act when/if McDonnell vetoes it/it gets struck down in court? There's just no way I can see it being upheld with what the Virginia Constitution says on redistricting.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Insist all elections are held on the same day as the Presidency to ensure the highest turnout?

Actually having something resembling 'general elections' in this country would indeed not be a bad idea.

Anyway, what's going on in Virginia violates that state's constitution, the governor opposes it, and as such it is going nowhere.

The Republican party got 57% of the statewide vote in the 2011 virginia senate elections.

But, your rolling batch of ever changing whining is quite amusing.

Statewide vote in off-years is useless. Virginia is a purple state, that doesn't fit with having a heavily Republican state senate.

So even if the electorate in the off-years is strongly Republican, it's injustice if it doesn't elect a closely divided Senate? What are you going to do, gerrymander the seats in Democrats' favour? Insist all elections are held on the same day as the Presidency to ensure the highest turnout?

They already did the former. The Republican party's popularity was able to break the vicious gerrymander by winning 2 seats.

That statement should be amended to state that what's going on in Virginia has resulted in some liberals on the internet claiming that it violates the state's Constitution.

In anycase, the Virginia legislature performed redistricting in 1982.
