Was going to vote Neutral as I haven't heard much about him, though seeing the outpouring of lefty hate just made me vote FF.

You know, you could just look at least Feingold's Wikipedia page before thoughtlessly voting contrarily just because the left-wing part of the forum likes Feingold.

Or he could look up Ron Johnson. Seriously, the guy seems to think he is representing Wyoming instead of Wisconsin.

I've never been a Feingold fan. Shock horror.

Apart from climate change (maybe not even apart from that), he just seems to be a generic Republican.

I don't get all of the hate for Ron Johnson. What makes him different from any other conservative Republican?

He defeated one of their heroes. It's hilarious.

He's also a terrible fit for Wisconsin.

But the margin was less than 65-18 or whatever. Wink

That's probably the reason behind the hate.

The first page?

Perhaps the worst current Senator; replaced perhaps the best Senator at the time.
Obvious answer is obvious.

"at the time" is not "of all time".

J.J. would've spent 5 posts arguing about it and still wouldn't recognize the error.

I also could've sworn that there was at least another post saying the same thing. I'm losing my mind.

Any way, Ron Johnson is a douche.

FF.  I see no good reason why he would be an HP except that he's a Republican (and defeated Russ Feingold), which obviously does not sit well with most of those here.

True but margin doesn't matter. Whether they lost by five points or 55 (Santorum's margin of defeat, of course), they still aren't members there anymore.

Pretty epic FF, and I don't get this idea that he's a certain defeat for 2016 -- he showed pretty significant skill campaigning in 2010, and though he was helped by the climate that year, incumbency will be going for him in 2016, and Wisconsin's trending Republican. Certainly in a Democratic climate he could well be defeated, but it's no Kirk-like certainty.

Feingold was also an FF, of course -- 2010 Wisconsin was an excellent Senate race with two high-quality candidates. Like Arizona 2012.

He's also a terrible fit for Wisconsin.

I wouldn't expect a progressive from Utah would mind that sort of thing.  Tongue

Well, normally I wouldn't, but Wisconsin is a lot more liberal than Utah, and has a much stronger history of Feingold (or should I say La Follete)-esque progressives. Wisconsin is better fitted to progressivism and at the least moderation, while Utah has always had a conservative streak better fitting to a Tea Party guy like Ron Johnson. Even the many low-level Socialists we had in various city council and mayoral positions in the 1910s were socially conservative reformer types. And I'll be honest, even though I hate Mike Lee, he does fit a large portion of Utah. At best, we could have a very moderate reformer type (if Matheson had a spine), but not a principled progressive type like say, Tammy Baldwin.

Salt Lake City is an anomaly with that sort of thing, but then it always has been. What fits SLC wouldn't fit the rest of the state.  But that detracts from my point; Wisconsin has much stronger bases of leftist thought than Utah.

Clearly, that goes without saying and was assumed in what I was getting at. The question is, why does your opinion of someone have anything to do with whether they are a good fit for their state?
