I've only seen the first three episodes at this point. My favorite scene is probably when Russo meets with Libertas to get dirt on Kern.

Just began episode 12. Has been a good season, I will have to take more time and watch it again as the AV Club publishes its reviews so that I catch everything.

Ah, when do those reviews come out?

My main hope for this season (I think it may already have jumped the shark by killing off the cokehead Congressman last season, alas) is that Underwood's plots actually fail for once. Right now he's basically a supervillain.

Unfortunately this doesn't cease other than a few secondary failures, but he faces more genuine challenge than he did in Season 1 and a few times he only survives out of luck.

I'm happy that they did more with a lot of the secondary characters of Season 1 with regards to development. Freddy and Rachel are my favorite characters at this point which I don't know what that indicates.

There ends Season 2. Overall I thought it was somewhat better than Season 1, and despite some lull points definitely delivered.

Stamper had it coming.

Honestly wasn't that into the British series. Urquhart makes Underwood look subtle (which is no easy task Tongue), and the other characters in the US series are far better developed.

After finishing up the season, I guess I was more satisfied, Underwood almost fell after all. Now the question is how much is he is going to rise from now on... and how hard is the eventuall fall going to be.

How much more can he possibly rise? Tongue

I've only watched through episode 3, but this season doesn't make any sense. The Democrats vote lockstep to push through entitlement reform over the protests of the Tea Party? Ummmm??? And Underwood has Republican Senators literally arrested and handcuffed and there's no public backlash about this? Why are all the Democrats in this show right wing DINOs??

It was hilarious when one of the McPoyle brothers shows up as the l33t hacker though.

Actual Democrats in Congress aren't True Leftists. They're perfectly willing to cave on entitlement reform to stave off a government shutdown, in my estimation. Voting "lockstep" is incredibly surprising however. The Capitol Police thing was pure TV chicanery, of course.

IIRC the bill included other things that the Tea Party objected to (and a few Democrats voted nay as well). It was poorly explained though. The arrests were entirely symbolic.

BTW I assume we can all agree that Cashew is the best character of Season 2.

Who thought that was a good idea?!

Probably Kevin Spacey, right?

Anyway I'd put the first season at a solid B- and the second at a C. It's okay and watchable enough but hardly worth the hype.

I actually found Season 2 a good bit better than Season 1 (though still severely flawed for a host of reasons) because it had a better idea of what it wanted to be.

Okay now they're impeaching the president because he took a xanax and didn't publicly disclose his marriage counseling??? This f[inks]ing show...

...that's not what the impeachment over. The fact that it was made an issue at all was dumb, though.

Speaking of the blacks, I did enjoy the episode where they took us to the projects and Freddy's son was a one-dimensional gangster with anger issues who pulled out a gun on camera after a guy took his picture.

Wait no, that was also the worst.

Yes that was a low point for sure.

Yeah, Freddy's subplot was one of the stronger points of the season but his son was horribly flat. They even used the cliched holding the gun sideways IIRC.

I wonder if Frank is going to murder the Russian President, or simply end up having sex with him.

I would bet money on them making "Petrov" a closet case at the very least.

Watched the first episode of Season 3, and I'm mixed.

I did enjoy the subplot with Doug despite the pointless presence of the McPoyle again, but since Frank is already president he lacks the drive to power that defined his character in the first two seasons; now he's just being sort of a dictatorial asshole. The cold open of him peeing on his father's grave was just too silly to take seriously, as this show often is.

Why do they only refer to Palestine as the Jordan Valley?

Why do they only refer to Palestine as the Jordan Valley?

I think it is some kind of Golan Heights analogue. They certainly refer to Palestine several times.

The Golan Heights are not really in a valley.

Also, I still have no idea where they're going with this DEEP WEB subplot. It seems like pointless filler.

As silly as House of Cards is, this season was objectively a lot better and more coherent than the utterly nonsensical and disjointed Season 2.

And like its British predecessor (which includes Urquhart forcing the abdication of the king), it was never meant to be an accurate depiction of politics.

The Netflix-made season of Trailer Park Boys was pretty good.
