You're taking a "detour" that increases your travel time by 70% JUST to avoid snow? And now your new route has snow anyway? You know, the interstates are pretty much always salted well in advance, especially in states more accustomed to large amounts of snowfall. I don't know too much about AZ's climate but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually easier for you to go through WY than AZ.

Of course, this is BushOK though and there's always a subtext. Anyone wanna bet he has some elaborate excuse for visiting a casino when he's just "passing through" Vegas and ends up spending away all the gas money his parents gave him?

edit- then he would get stuck there and poor Joe might actually have to put up with him Sad

Yeah, unless there's an actual snowstorm (of course knowing Bushie he probably would consider this a big snowstorm, the Interstates are completely clear. I should know this better than anyone. Of course Bushie might be aware too and the rest of your explanation is correct.

You and everyone else who lives up north, and in New England

I wonder if I-80 through WY is a difficult drive. I-70 through the Rockies, just west of Denver is about as tricky as I've seen on an interstate. Curvy and steep. And so pretty that it's hard to keep your eyes on the road.  I'd love to live near the mountains one day, but I'd probably drive off the road while admiring the scenery. Bushie should have sold his car and gone Greyhound.

I-80 through Wyoming is a breeze with most of it being fairly flat, and they are probably better at snow removal/preparing for a snow storm since they get a lot of it. Arizona on the other hand is not as good as preparing for it/clearing it. I-40 through the Flagstaff area, and indeed most of the high desert, becomes tricky after a big storm. Flagstaff is supposed to get 6-9 inches of snow tomorrow and since it is a cold storm, a lot will fall at the lower elevation as well. There is actually a winter storm warning in effect. I don't know what the hell Bushie is thinking....oh, that's right, he isn't.

Has every one else noticed that Bushie has started to tune out the noise he doesn't like here?

Has started? What? Why do you think his life is so screwed up?

He was responding for a while. See his interactions with Torie and Inks a few days ago.

Now that we have figured out he was fired, he has no response. Also his decision to go through Vegas is just so much bullsh**t.....

It's just the typical pattern. Tries to get everyone on his side and argues, only to realize that nobody believes his story, then proceeds to do whatever stupid thing he was going to do anyway.

People need to realize that Bushie decides what he's going to do at the very beginning (probably in a matter of minutes), and nothing anyone says is going to convince him of anything.

There's no question he was fired a while back.  Even in my poorest days I couldn't get everything in order in 48 hours.......not possible.

Was it even that long? It was almost like he had been packing for a week and had no intention of working a 2 week notice. 24 hours ago, he wasn't sure if he was going to work 2 weeks or be let go, and then all of a sudden, he managed to pack an entire apartment, close everything up, and get out of town by 6am. I had trouble packing my school apartment in a few days, cleaning it so I would get my security deposit back, and the like, before I left, and I am in far better shape and younger than BushOK.

No chance he was just let go. My thesis that he was told he was not going to be kept as a permanent hire makes more sense than anything that has been said. Once he was informed of that, his parents told him this experiment was over and they could not afford to support him as they were, given his dad's impending unemployment, and he was told to come home. For the past week or so, he has been packing and closing down all of his things and preparing to leave early today.

This is the only thing that makes any sense. His story he is telling us is merely made up to save face. Eventually, he will come clean. He always does. It will just take a few days.

And it is not as if Jeff just throws everything together. He probably spends a few minutes figuring out how he will pack each item. He is obsessive that way.  Kind of like a woman. Kind of like my mother was. Smiley

That would be quite the surrealist ending to the Update Saga.  BushOK finds himself in a downward spiral, and loses everything, eventually even his computer.  Without his computer, he's unable to log in to Atlas to finish the narrative, and his ultimate fate is left up to the viewer's imagination.

If his parents ever go under or cut him off, that will be the inevitable result.  Though I wouldn't rule out a homeless Bushie logging in a few times from the library or some such place.

Remember when he insisted that he needed several weeks to prepare for a 4 day trip?

Yeah, he has known for a while now that his contract would not be picked up.

Yeah, moving out of my apartment took a while.  Granted, I did it lazily, but still.

This is what makes the Bushie story so intriguing.  When building all the details seem pretty boring and straightforward, but then the twist comes and we're left piecing together all those previous scenes actually meant and our mind is blown at how we missed it the first time.

It's pretty much a David Lynch movie.

That's right, and when he does come clean, he always treats his untruths/mistakes as no big deal.  Like, "Oh, yes, I made this huge blunder.  But I have nothing to learn from that.  It wasn't really a big deal, and it's all in the past now."

Correct, gentleman. I myself am guilty of getting bored during the slower moments in the saga but I guess everything really is here for a reason.

Yeah, I can see him coming out in the next few days and saying, yes, he was let go, but it doesn't matter because now he can get his life together and decide what he really wants to do. And that job did not make him happy, he felt unfulfilled, etc.

I wonder if he will keep supporting his children? Or will his parents pick up that $50/month bill as well?

I wonder if he'll stop to see the Grand Canyon. It's not too far from I-40. It's well worth seeing if you've not been before.

He's in California now.  Nothing like a 500 mile detour.
