The new logo is part of the branding identity for Enterprise Florida, which is not a car rental place or a spaceship, but rather Florida's new marketing campaign to attract employers to the state.

And while using a necktie to symbolize business may be a bit too Mad Men for this era of more diverse workplaces, the campaign is still preferable to Governor Scott's original concept, "Florida: America's Penis."

There are much better issues to hit Scott on.

For once, I agree with you.

I'm not sure Rick Scott had that in mind when he greenlighted that logo.

I don't think he had anything in mind when he greenlighted that....

The real issue here is that he hired a Tennessee firm to design it rather than a Florida one.

I can see why it might be considered condescending to some blue-collar workers.

“Your tie logo is offensive," one commenter wrote on Enterprise Florida's Facebook page. "What, business is men only?”

Are ties men only?

God people are stupid.

That's true. Had I known up front that this was made by a Tennessee firm I would not have laughed because I know they did their darndest Wink

That's a very good point, actually.

Uhhh... In our culture ties are associated with men.  Just like the ancient Greeks used a mirror as a symbol for women (♀).  It's not that men never used mirrors.  I'm pretty sure they used mirrors a lot more than women today were ties.  Anyway I would love to see where you work.  It sounds very nice.

Get help for your concrete thinking.

The real issue here is that he hired a Tennessee firm to design it rather than a Florida one.

I would be mighty pissed if my tax dollars went to that project.  There are no branding professionals in Florida that can compete with the marketing geniuses in Appalachia?

It's too bad that Hermes's main symbols are taken by doctors and florists, because they'd make excellent generic symbols for commerce and work.

ChappellRoberts is a Tampa-area branding & marketing firm. Its President and CEO is Colleen Chappell, a woman. Wonder if they would've done this...

Looks like a bottle of Tropicana Orange Juice. I find it aesthetically unappealing, but whatev.  Sadly, we also have further examples of people desperately looking for an excuse to have hurt feelings. If this is what sets off your sexist/classist button, you're crazy trigger happy. Save it for the instiutions that are truly sexist (like the Catholic Church) or truly classist (like the entire platform of the Republican Party).

Here's some options for you.
-Biggest Medicare fraud in this nation's history.
-Bulldozing state parks to put up private golf courses.
-Attempting to develop Seminole land
-Slashing pay/benefits for teachers/police/firefighters, then trying to reverse the damage.
-Spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to refurbish his office.
-Destruction of coral reefs
-Shortening the early voting period
-The Amendments on the ballot (confusing, long, double-negativey)
-IIRC, lowest approval ratings in Florida history

Hermes' symbol is not a symbol for doctors.  He is a messenger and flower deliveries often contain a message.  So that makes sense.  He would be appropriate for a postal service, Fedex, UPS etc.  But doctors?  No.

The caduceus is properly a symbol of Hermes, not Asclepius.

This - and honestly, I find it quite attractive.  That being said, I think the logo's bad because it looks cheesy.  A tie is a symbol of professionalism; throwing a tie in there to be an "I" looks unprofessional... it's oxymoronic.

Who the hell thinks business when Florida comes up?

When it's a logo for an agency devoted to bringing businesses to Florida?
