I am 100% certain that won't be the name of the next pope.  Anyway, the confusion of the name with the number six only happens in a few languages.

I have a sneaking suspicion he may choose an unprecedented name, and one generally regarded as sacred - Pope Peter the Roman.  There are a few reasons I believe this to be the case, but we'll have to wait until the conclave to find out for sure.

What kind of moronic excuse for a papabile would deliberately play into that [Inks]ing 'prophecy'?

I would if I were Pope. Then again, that's why I'm not Pope.

I know the numbering of Johns is a little wonky, but would they really skip ten Pii at once?

(not a serious question, I know what you meant)

I could see a pope who had been involved in healing the breach between the Roman and Greek churches taking the name Constantine II.  I could see a pope elected from outside the conclave taking the name Fabian II. Mark II as well as Matthew I and Luke I are certainly possible for a pope who wished to honor one of other gospel writers than John. Miltiades II is a possible, but not very likely name for an African Pope.  Francis I is also possible. I would be quite surprised if any other name that has been used either once or not at all was chosen, and even these are unlikely.

Miltiades II would also be a good name for someone seeking East-West reunification, actually.

In theory, a new name is always possible through combining names in the manner of John Paul. There aren't that many names suitable for combining, though.
Miltiades Constantine I. Has a ring to it. Tongue

They could at least be a little vaguer about it by going by Romanus II (I was surprised to find there has been only one pope of that name when I checked it for this post.)

I don't know, but the other Obamanation registered in late January. This Obamanation has been with us for a while.

They're sufficiently similar to cause confusion.

You can't seriously believe in the Prophecy of the Popes nonsense...

Clearly, the Prophecy doesn't rise to the level of Scripture, but its uncanny how St. Malachy's vision is lining up with Scripture.  The Prophecy was right about Pope Benedict XVI. (Glory of the Olive).  Obviously, you cannot take this to be Scripture and if there are inaccuracies then Scripture will prevail, but we'll have to wait and see.

What?

If you read the Wikipedia page line-by-line, you'll see that almost every single one of them is a huge stretch.  You could make any pope fit any of those descriptions.

...the cardinal whom Ratzinger's widely considered to have prevailed over in the 2005 conclave was named Martini.

It's also worth noting that apparently, Benedict prefers Bertone has his successor.  We'll have to wait and see what the conclave gives us.  Of course, Bertone is the "Acting Pope" for lack of a better term right now, so idk if he would be chosen or even considered as the actual successor.

I would say that too many people hate Bertone, and with good reason.
