The year is 1924. Four tumultuous years have passed since Debs' first election to the Presidency. In that short span of time, a wave of new Socialist-backed legislation has been passed, coupled with the Panic of 1921. Since then, a rocky recession has commenced, marked by brutal political conflicts between the Debs administration, the various parties in Congress, and business. While conservatives have blamed Debs' "radical" legislation, the President has blamed "the rich plutocrats who have little to no stake in seeing the improvement of their fellow man".

Running are four candidates. President Debs, defending his legacy and the last four years, is seeking re-election and a second mandate for Socialism. Representing the Republican party is former Governor and 1920 Vice Presidential candidate Calvin Coolidge. Coolidge has been nominated on a platform of repealing the legislation of the last four years, lowering taxes, refusing to recognize the Soviet Union, and returning much power concerning government programs to the states, as he managed Massachusetts. Smith is running a more moderate campaign, also in opposition to Debs' more radical achievements. Instead, he is focused on tariff reduction, re-engaging Great Britain and others in trade, increasing government efficiency and effectiveness, lowering taxes, and alleviating urban problems. Finally, in one final stand, former President "Fighting Bob" La Follette, attempting to defend his legacy and reforge progressive Republican strength, as opposed to the radical Socialists, the Democrats, and the more conservative Republicans. Who do ya want?

If we want to throw out Debs, we have to do it with a candidate who can attract as much cross-ideological support as possible. Ergo, La Follette.

John Calvin Coolidge.

Why vote for La Follette? He's basically on the same team!

But we don't want to throw out Debs. La Follette has had his chance, Coolidge would be terrible, and Smith is just..meh.

Why is LaFollette still running? That doesn't make any sense.

I vote for Debs, of course. Four more years!

I am obligated to include general election candidates. It doesn't make sense that Norman Thomas or Eugene Debs would run time and time again, does it? Yet I include them. Why? They were on the ballot.

In a situation like this, with Socialists committing massive electoral fraud on a nationwide level, I vote for Coolidge as the most radical anti-Socialist.

Historical Note: The Labour-Liberal coalition elected in UK would cooperate with the Debs government.

I'll probably be over it by 1928, but I'm still pissed about the tactical voting.

What tactical voting? It's pretty clear right-wingers are behind Coolidge and Smith's nomination.

I can't stand Coolidge, and I'm beginning to tire of Debs and La Follette.

Yeah, this. And probably Wood's as well in 1920. There really is no evidence that anyone other than Seatown was doing this.

If we want to throw out Debs, we have to do it with a candidate who can attract as much cross-ideological support as possible. Ergo, La Follette.

I don't follow your logic. Why not Smith?  He should be able to appeal to mainstream progressives as well as conservative Democrats, so long as they're not of the prohibitionist or bigoted variety.  I'm tempted to vote for him myself, especially with Underwood, but I can't not vote for Cal.

Honestly I find all four choices very appealing.

Smith is not actually that progressive (he became an opponent of the New Deal towards the end of his life) and he's a corrupt Tammany Hall guy.
