We have a well with a softener.  Our water unsoftened tends to have an iron/rusty taste due to the high content of iron in our soil.  But with the softener, the water is tasteless.

What do you have?  I'd assume the vast majority have city water.

It's provided through the local utility company, but they get it from wells.

I'm not entirely sure where the Apartment Complex gets their water, so I'll just say the most obvious answer to me, Public City Water.

City water - and some of the best water in the state, ironically.

Being sandwiched between two mountain ranges - the Wasatch and the Oquirrh mountains - we have pretty good tap water.  I take my medicine with the tap water generally and it tastes like clean, crisp mountain spring water.

City water: from an underground aquifer instead of a Great Lake like I'm used to. I don't like the taste nearly as much as Lake Erie's water, but it's not terrible and there isn't a worry of shortage so I should be thankful for that much.

City water via a public utility. I tend not to drink it plain as I find it far too chlorinated for my taste.

Much of the USA has very hard (full of minerals) groundwater.  Gives you atrocious hair after a shampoo, and makes soap feel.. gross.  On the other hand I think maybe too-soft water has some drawbacks as well?  I'm not sure, as for sure Missouri had awful water in the ground.  Here in Thailand showers feel just right though.

There's actually a map of Austria showing how "hard" the ground water is:

http://www.transhelsa.at/files/Grundwasserhaerte_Oesterreich.pdf

If the low values mean "soft" and the high values "hard", I use "soft" water.

So, my answer would be "soft city water (public)". But that's not an option, so "Option 3".
