Socialist activist Theodore Nelson Finn decides to run in both the Democratic and Republican primaries, because in his view both major parties are anti-worker and filled with "capitalist parasites". Oddly enough, he actually did better in the Republican primaries than the Democratic one because of anti-Romney pretest voters.

Democratic Primaries:

Barrack Obama (IL)
Theodore Nelson Finn (KY)

Republican primaries:

Mitt Romney (MA)
Theodore Nelson Finn (KY)

Romney wins with the support of social conservatives and the mainstream conservative establishment in a more competent version of Romney2008. Goldwater is able to get support from an odd coalition of tea partiers, neocons, libertarians, and reformers, as well as those who just don't trust Romney all that much.
