Ive always thought it would be funny if some Secretaries of State reported the results in a way that would purposely give the losing candidate false hope until the last batch of precincts.

An example would be Kentucky purposely holding the results the heavily Republican Cincinatti suburbs(Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties) until the end in order to make it look like the Democrat won.

Or purposely hold Fairfax county in Virginia until the very end to make it look like the Republican won.

It would be funny if any SOS ever did this.

Meh, this kind of already happens.

Yeah, and it's hilarious to see pundits (i.e. CNN) talk about how those numbers show dramatic turnaround from 2008, and how the state looks good for Republican ____. I remember that happening with Romney last year.

Kathy Nicklaus is the closest example I can think of as a county elections official, but she's probably just plain incompetent.

No but some elections administrators are jokes anyway.

My father was worried about Virginia this past election because it showed Romney up significantly, I had to keep reassuring him that NoVa hasn't released any numbers yet.

I vividly remember in 2006 being reassured that Webb was likely to win because NOVA hadn't returned results by midnight.

Not sure this qualifies as "sense of humor," and could otherwise get a SoS in a lot of trouble. Purposefully withholding numbers looks insanely suspicious as a component of fraud. Pretty lousy joke.

California loves to pretend to be more conservative than they actually are election night. Prop. 30 was actually losing by a few points, and ended up passing by 10.
