Well, my presidential vote would have likely been different if it weren't for the annexation and electoral college proposals...

Those were my main objections as well, but I don't vote against a party because I'm not an immature child. I'll even support Federalists if they have the best candidate in a race. When labor puts up a decent candidate, like Gass perhaps, I would lend my support. I also made an effort to put Labor in positions of power within my Cabinet which seemingly went thankless. When you put up candidates like Snowstalker and Seatown that attack a party for no reason, you can't really ask why they don't get support. Snowstalker basically had a Senate seat in the bag in August and decided he would rather attack than cooperate. If Labor makes more of an effort to work with other parties instead of against them, there would be no need for this thread. I've never shied away from working with anyone. That's why I reached out to Snowstalker today. I hope that others can follow suit and drop the petty stuff.

For what it's worth, "annexing" was just shorthand for some sort of unification. It could easily be some sort of "free movement/union" agreement that accomplishese the same thing and maintains independence. I don't plan on dropping bombs. Tongue

I think I've been pretty open about why I voted the way I voted. I got the impression that Duke (and you, to a lesser extent) took it personally, but I've emphasized over and over that I don't do that.

I wouldn't support any "unification" with Canada or any other euphemism spun on it. Atlasia is enough as it is now.

I think the electoral college is a worse idea...

I will be honest here. I didn't actually think that such a proposal was feasible, and the chance of something like that getting through the Senate is basically nil. It really struck me as (again, no offense) a typical Marokai campaign tactic. Sure, it's something different but it doesn't actually fix anything or improve the game. I'd compare to past proposals like legislative petitions and national initiatives. They sound creative and interesting but they won't add anything to the game in the end. I prefer to focus my reform efforts on more constructive proposals like committees, voting reform, Cabinet reform and so on. And I think we've made great strides within those and will continue to do so.

My presidential vote was, in effect, a protest vote. We all knew Marokai/Duke was going to win anyway. I've made it very clear that I intend to work closely with the administration to accomplish mutual goals.

Like I said, everyone's free to feel however the want to on the individual ideas. Everyone has their own opinion. No need beating things into the ground.

That's certainly not my intention. An honest question was asked and I gave an honest answer. My "Oh boy." post was basically that. If you ask this question, you're either going to get lies, or bickering, and so far we've stayed away from that fortunately. A better question would be "Why do you vote against Liberals?" and chances are the answers would be worse.

The John Engle Party's candidates performed poorly in the recent Presidential election, and no one has ever won an elected office under our party. Obviously a great majority of you have reasons you don't vote for the John Engle Party, despite our noble cause.

I'd like to know why. I'd also like to know what the John Engle Party could do to earn your consideration next time around.

Please use this thread to give suggestions, voice complaints, or simply give your opinion as non-JEP, or as JEP member who doesn't vote for JEP candidates.

Thanks a bunch!

John Engle caused me to avoid these boards for however long John Engle was around.

I get the feeling from many people that they don't trust the Labor Party or they have a problem with actions by certain Labor members.

If there's one thing you learn about this game too quickly, its that you can't trust anyone. I've held many offices around this place but I still feel like I don't know anything that's actually going on. I've really stopped trying. This place would be better off with less drama.

I mean you could go all Tony Blair and stuff and possibly avoid this in the future, but you have to decided whether that is what the purpose of Labor is or not.

I would argue that's how they ran this time. Marokai/Duke ran to the right of where I was in each of my campaigns, but probably a bit to the left of Polnut/Tmthforu.

The Liberals are in the same situation.

Labor never had many Senate seats at their peak. I think two is the most you've ever had, and one is not far removed from that. The Liberals had six at one point and are down to one. You would have two now if Labor had elected someone who didn't have the least reliable record possible.

Only two parties have elected Presidents since you were President.

When was the last time Atlasia had a surprise victory?

That's sad, but I faced the same thing of course. The presidency sucks.

Barnes was never elected in a special election.

Thank goodness! I was in the process of making a post...I had hoped I didn't miss that much. I didn't remember Barnes getting elected in a special election but I knew he had been elected in December.

We had three for one month (I think it was in November): Julio, Barnes and Snowstalker (if I recall correctly, Barnes and Snowstalker both won special elections for at-large when there were tons of vacancies popping up; Barnes won re-election one month later for the full term and Snowstalker didn't). For the most part, though, yes, our recent average has been 2.

You did have three for a while, in November and December, but Barnes was never elected in a special election. He won the full term in December, beating out Snowstalker, who won in the special election. Marokai was elected in August, but retired in December for obvious reasons...

Ah, yes. There were so many elections at that point, my mind is fuzzy. Tongue So it was Marokai, Julio and Snowstalker, then after the December elections, Barnes and Julio.

That was one of those fluke elections where the candidates that won had no chance of getting reelected a few weeks later. We had something similar in March 2012 when a young Alfred Jones and Pingvin were elected in a two-seat special election.

I haven't seen the Left this weak since the last weeks prior to dissolution.

I haven't seen the Left this weak since the last weeks prior to dissolution.

We have seven left-wing Senators; every single TPP-er in the Senate (and every TPP-er who has ever been elected to the Senate) was once a member of the Liberal Party. Hell, Ben was once a member of Labor.

If I were actually ranking the Senate from left to right, I'd place Ben, Franzl, and possibly X and Oakvale to your left.

TPP is a centrist party, according to the wiki, and I would only consider the two more recent additions, Franzl and Mr. X to be on the Left, but that's just how I see it. Ben and Oakvale not a chance they are to the left of me.
