Gas prices go up every year in the spring, peaking around Memorial Day, and down in the fall, bottoming out around Christmas Day. There's already a seasonal adjustment in the unemployment numbers.

Just in time for the sequester to ruin the otherwise imminent post recession boom...

Like I said in the other thread, if that Romney fellow had won, he would be taking credit for this right now, due to "restoring business confidence."

Yes, that was my nightmare scenario.

Lets look at U-6 Unemployment, which means

Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers. Marginally attached workers are persons who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the recent past. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for a job. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule.

It is 14.3%.  At the peak it was 17.1% in 2009, but during the last recession it was at worst 10% or so in 2003 so that still leaves a mountain to climb just to get to 2003 levels let along 2006-7 levels of 8%.

The last recession has nothing on this one.

good hopefully it continues. I just need a job, I haven't had a regular job since the Bush administration. I still think Michigan is lagging behind the rest of the U.S. by a lot though.

Using money that they will actually have, ideally.  Remember what got us into this mess in the first place.

The Bush administration definitely promoted the idea that it was patriotic to spend money you didn't have and to own things you couldn't afford.

People spend money they didn't have because (thanks Reaganomics!) the median income has been stagnating for the past 3 decades and people couldn't afford to satisfy their basic needs with the money they actually had.

I thought the "job-creators" were supposed to stop creating jobs with the reversion to the Clinton tax rates. Roll Eyes

I described this as one of the most sickening possible outcomes of a Romney victory in November.  Probably would say some crap like, "businesses feel comfortable in investing because of me" as well.

Are you mad?  The private jet and golden toilet industries have completely stagnated thanks to Comrade Obama.

Yet another reason why a minimum wage increase is a good idea.

The more I think about it the Democrats should have raised minimum wage back in 09-10 when they controlled congress. Now it will most likely be until 2017 that minimum wage will be raised. I know it was just raised and/or was in the middle of a increase but you never know how long it will be before it is raised again. And the 7.25 it is right now is way below the equivalent of 11 dollars or so it was in the early 70's adjusted for inflation in todays dollars. Maybe a agreement can be made to pass some kind of increase in the Republican controlled house but I doubt it. The Democrats really need to push this in 2014 even if there is really no chance of them taking back the house. And all Democratic candidates for president need to push this issue hard. At least 9 dollars maybe 10 by 2016 should be the democrats main campaign issue.
