If anybody is interested in political advertising, you should go to YouTube and check out all of the gay marriage ads from last year's state referendums. One thing I noticed is that, in almost every state, the pro gay marriage ads were very crisp, catchy and compelling, while the anti gay marriage ads were a lot crappier. They either resembled Crossroads GPS ads or had graphics similar to powerpoint presentations.

MN For Marriage (anti)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi_ZHpGKI2Q

MN 4 All Families (pro)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqIDuMgV4Vs

Preserve Marriage WA (anti)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yWmSwLk9MA

WA United for Marriage (pro)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b92JG2Mmjc

Marylanders 4 Marriage Equality (pro)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcqrX8S592U

couldn't find one for the other side

Does anybody else agree with me on this?

May have to do with the age of the producers.

Probably lack of enthusiasm/resignation on the part of the opponents.  Resignation that they know its only a matter of time before it envelops the entire nation.

Because the creative class wants nothing to do with it, or most other pet issues of the GOP.

There is a reason that Obama's campaign was selling apparel designed by Vera Wang and getting millions of dollars in bundling from Anna Wintour. There's a reason he had Beyonce and Alicia Keys performing at his inauguration. There's a reason there was a revolving door between Silicon Valley and the Internet targeting his campaign was doing to get out the vote. No Republican could ever get those kind of people to work for them. Instead, they have Rick Santorum's tacky sweater vests, Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair, and a bunch of old guys who still use BlackBerrys trying to craft Romney's Web strategy.

If they knew they were fighting a losing battle I doubt they would have run opposition to it in the first place. It's more than that. Perhaps opponents of SSM tend to be older and don't like modern advertising.

Just 4-6 years ago it was the other way around.

But people are also much more likely to see through the ** in their anti-gay arguments now.

They probably know they're lying homophobes. There was some Prop 8 ad that said that gay marriage would be mandatory. Yeah, everyone would be required to get a gay marriage.

That reminds me of the guy on Free Republic who claimed that repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell would mean the draft would also be reinstated.

The Minnesota for Marriage campaign was just all around awful. Just about every ad or video put out by their supporters was just used as a point of mockery by the opponents of it, my favorite being the guy who tried to light the box of Cheerios on fire and epic failed (the video went viral thanks to the pro-gay marriage folks of course.) BTW that guy never got to vote for the amendment, shortly after that video he got fired from his job who clearly didn't want a vocal bigot working for them, there was an investigation as to file criminal charges against him for such a reckless and dangerous act, his health problems worsened, and he died of a heart attack about a week after it hit.

That was the first thing I thought as well. Hateful people tend not to be open-minded.

The funding discrepancy has complete reversed in the last few years. NOM doesn't have two pennies to rub together.

The cash flow into anti-same sex marriage campaigns has been dropping like a rock in recent years. Churches are not putting out enough anymore, and individual donations are also way down (although they were never very high to begin with).

Yeah that one was pretty bad, although I don't think it was an official ad.

One thing to note as well is the fact that most of the "anti" ads disable the comments section. They probably know that people wouldn't have very nice things to say if they could post comments. So much for having a spirited discussion.

I noticed something else.  The anti-gay mariage ads all had likes and comments disabled on their youtube videos, whil ethe pro-gay marriage ads did not.

A lot of these ads would be better if they did a few more takes.  It sounds like everybody in them is struggling to remember their lines.

It's an underrated advantaged.  Nixon and Reagan's television campaigns were incredibly good.  The GOP had the advertising advantage in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Same-sex marriage is not going to challenge corporate power, enhance workers' rights, raise taxes, or impose environmental regulations.  Conservatives are beginning to recognize that their beloved son or daughter might be a homosexual, and that there is nothing that can be done about it.
