What's your take? He seems to be putting himself out there.

Voted 'leaning no'. You can make the argument that if he's been waiting for memories of his brother's administration to fade, 2016 is the perfect year, but I think if he'd really wanted it he'd have run before -- after all, there's no time quite like the present.

Certainly, whether he runs or not, there will be quite the surfeit of talent in the 2016 Republican primaries which was...not there...in 2012.

Leaning no.  Yes, he's "putting himself out there" so he can sell books.  There is that.  He has his book out now, and so he's doing this national media tour to promote it.  But the book has been in the works for a long time.  It doesn't really give us any great new insight into his interest in a national campaign that we didn't already have a few weeks ago.

I think Bush wants to keep his options open, but he's pragmatic, and will probably only run if he sees a clear path to victory.  But I don't think he will see a clear path to victory, so he won't run.  His wife doesn't like the spotlight, and will probably try to dissuade him from running, if nothing else.  Since his decision to not run in 2012, he's already seemed to start burning his political bridges, saying that the GOP should consider agreeing to tax increases for a deficit deal, and making comments like this:

As that big New York Magazine profile notes, despite his recent immigration muddle, he's moved left since leaving office:

My guess is actually that Bush doesn't run, but endorses Rubio, and hopes that Rubio wins the White House, so that he can wield influence through his relationship with Rubio.  (Even though, as I said, Bush is now probably closer to someone like Jon Huntsman ideologically.)

Leaning Yes

This whole book tour and talking about what his positions are has me thinking he's definitely interested.

Neutral but leaning yes.  It will be quite a clash of titans in 2016 between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush, assuming Jeb can clear out his rivals in the primaries without too much damage in the process.

Is Ross Perot, Jr. going to run too?

Hopefully not.  He would lose in a landslide due to his last name.

Its an open seat and himself and christie are similar. I dont think o'malley or cuomo or schweizer are nervous about another bush running like they had been in past. He is beatable.

He may; he certainly won't win (too stubborn, too prickly, his Meet the Press appearance was really a disaster).

I don't think anyone is questioning his desire to run, but the political field is stacked against him and his wife wants him to stay out. Also, the nation's opinion of George Bush isn't going to be much different in 2016 than it was last year, and there was a much clearer path to the nomination in 2012 than there will be in 2016.

My gut says he passes and lets Rubio run.

Would be a disaster if he won the nomination. Would be a catharsis for the party to reject a Bush in the primaries, though.
