He called Gay marriage " a form of discrimination against children." Lean HP

He's a Catholic prelate, get real.

Creepy old man in a cape. If he wants to command respect, he needs to update the wardrobe. It's hard to take somebody in a pointy hat seriously.

Because people in two-piece suits do such bang-up jobs.

They can't both be doing a terrible job?

Why would one need to 'update the wardrobe' to (presumably) something approximating the other in that case?

I don't care what they're wearing, the people under the respective stereotypical outfit are definitely both doing a pretty terrible job at what they're doing.

I like what I've seen. Incredibly humble. His frozen stance when he first appeared on the balcony was...unique but the light heartedness was nice. Not to seem shallow but he looks like a Pope. Seems like I agree with him most of the time on policy and theological issues.

As is known, I wanted someone else for several reasons but we stand as a family behind Pope Francis I. Smiley

His performance on the balcony was great, and I am really happy for him. Plus, he is not as leftist as he originally appeared. He has my approval now.

Yeah, his first appearance was absolutely awesome. Of course looking nice and being nice are too very different things, but that's nonetheless a promising sign.

I suppose shades and a snapback would really command some awe and admiration from the younger crowds.

How about jeans and a hoodie?

Anyway I knew I wasn't going to approve of whoever it was. However the one plus to him is that apparently he's fine with more charismatic and handwaving masses.

Almost BRTD, if only we had gone with my boys the Dominicans instead of a Jesuit...

I prefer if they have zippers. And you're not supposed to actually wear the hood unless you're outside.

Despite being an obvious joke, it does make a good point in contrast to Cathcon in attracting younger crowds. Like take a look at the average age in your typical Catholic church. Then look at the average age in a church where the pastor really does wear jeans and a hoodie.

He comes across as benevolent and warm-hearted, which is obviously very positive. (Non-Catholic)

He's an old Catholic man, so obviously I disagree with him on a lot of issues, but he seems intelligent with more emphasis on education and anti-poverty initiatives than many others.

He also has that cute old grandpa Pope feel that made John Paul II so charming, which Benedict lacked.

These were my exact thoughts about him as well. I do hope he will focus more on economic issues and social justice as opposed to the traditional social issues (of course, I expect nothing less than staunch social conservatism from the Pope). Given his past, there looks to be good cause for optimism.

My first impression of him during his first appearance yesterday was very good. I did like what I saw. He seems to have a good personality and his humility is admirable.
