Many Americans have already been trained to have no remorse for people on food stamps or housing assistance.  They ignore the fact that 85% of them are employed and just dump on the idea of those benefits getting cut as "get a jerb lazy."  No segment will change them at this point.

CNN rides the tide. It goes with whoever seems to be winning at the time. It tried to out-FoX FoX when Dubya was President until people hated him... and then joined the Bush-bashers. When the Tea Party became the rage it joined in.

People on food stamps, housing assistance, and Head Start are less likely to watch cable news, thus the networks do not cover this as much as to something that would affect a wealthier demographic.

No, I don't think that's the issue.  The issue is that the media doesn't use its independent judgment to decide which political issues to cover.  It covers issues based on what prominent Democrats and Republicans are talking about.  Since the Republicans were hyping the White House tours as a partisan wedge against Obama, accusing him of cancelling them even though sequestration doesn't explicitly require him to, that got coverage.  If the Dems would talk about food stamps and Head Start every day like the GOP was doing with White House tours, it would get coverage.  Of course, ideally, the media shouldn't have to depend on using the two major parties to decide what to cover.

There are kids whose parents cannot afford to feed them now, but our cable news focused on the kids who got inconvenienced while going on a vacation, is the problem. Why isn't important here, especially when "why" is "poor people don't watch cable news"

Been obviously for a long time. The imminent Iraq threat that had to be timed around the 2002 midterms, and the economic stimulus that consisted of tax cuts for the rich that would take effect in several years are just some of the more galling things that the so called media didn't do any actual reporting on.

Exactly, because these are entertainment channels, not news outlets. The sooner we redefine them as a nation, the better off we'll be. They are more likely than not less informative and investigational than Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, which ought to tell people something.

I actually read English Pravda for entertainment (the Russian one is very boring and bland, but there are colorful things going on at the English one.

Somebody tell Think Progress that "Big 3 Networks" is understood to refer to ABC, NBC, and CBS, not CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.
