Amen, opebo.....this incarnation of the  poster was a good one, in my view.  Now he's been sent to oblivion.  Cry

First you complain Grumps about "the slows," in wielding the ax,  and now you complain about doing it at all - just toss the rules in the dustbin. How does one make you happy?  How does your wife manage to make you happy come to think of it?  Perhaps she could give me a call to give me some pointers. Sbane has my phone number.

Have a good weekend. At the moment I am in pain from falling face down in the shower on the hard tile yesterday morning - a glimpse of my future given by the grim reaper just to torture me. At least the THC has a "medicinal" purpose now for a bit. Tongue

That is said, and you're most welcome.

A sock? Weird, he spoke authentic Italian.

Before someone brings it up... no, he wasn't my sock. Tongue

Mondale.

It was actually discovered about a week ago, but Nym has been really busy, and didn't have a chance to read the discussion thread on it on the mod board until last night.

We have lots of trolls and altogether unusual characters who speak Italian.

But he could have just been copying and pasting what you said into google translate and converting from Italian to English, and then doing the opposite to respond.

I would think a native speaker, particularly one who's also multilingual like Antonio, would usually be able to tell whether text in a given language is from Google Translate or not.

Just a possibility, as it is a bit harder to tell on the Internet then in person. Who is he a sock of, anyway?

Got back to that discussion, and noticed a further sign of authenticity:

Si, sono nato a Milano e ho vissuto li per undic'anni. Adesso abito negli USA, ovviamente Tongue

This way of writing "eleven years" indicates that it wasn't translated. An automatic translator would certainly have come up with undici anni, which is the technically correct spenning. The spelling undic'anni is directly derived from oral Italian, since the pronunciation leads to obliterating the "i" and pronouncing it as a collective "undicianni" ("ci"  followed by another vowel produces the sound that in English is pronounced by "ch"). Bottom line: google translate couldn't have come up with that.

Ah, okay sorry I don't speak Italian. I may learn sometime as I'm Italian, (my grandfather's parents on my mother's side were born in Italy.) Smiley

That's what I'm wondering.

I'm not surprised he was a sock, since it's pretty hard to imagine someone with all of his collection of views actually existing in real life.

It's not hard for me to imagine, but Great-Aunt Frances died a few years back.

Your great aunt obviously wasn't 30 years old, and probably didn't live in San Francisco.

Lived to 86 and died at home in East Longmeadow. Point taken.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure who decided that caring about socks was so important.

It is a control strategy.  Anyone can be accused, and there is no way to defend against it.

Most bannings are illegitimate anyway

Amen brother.

So there's more than one racist monarchist liberal out there?

And also a partisan heirarchy-defending Catholic despite being a 30-year old Democrat from San Francisco AND a staunch supporter of the British monarchy.
