This is the first of what I hope to be a few strategic threads to unite liberals, progressives, and socialists on the board behind a common candidate in the 1948 general election and beyond. We shouldn't let our split votes allow for a Republican victory, especially if that Republican is Bob Taft.

Voting will cease once the General Election has begun. If you want to be an ALPS member it is expected that you vote for the nominee this ballot produces, no questions. We'll also need some level of rudimentary organization here, so if you want to be in charge of any of these positions, please say so:

General Secretary - responsible for making these threads and maintaing ALPS unity
Chief Whip - responsible for making sure that ALPS members vote the ALPS line
Chief Ideologist - responsible for smoothing out differences among ALPS ideological constituencies and coming up with a master program
Liberal Representatives - Two of these, they shall speak for the self-described liberals
Progressive Representatives - Two of these, they shall speak for the self-described progressives
Socialist Representatives - Two of these, they shall speak for the self-described socialists
Ambassador to Cathcon - responsible for determining ALT candidates for various left parties and communicating things to Cathcon about candidates

Any other positions may be added as we see fit. I'll go ahead and declare my candidacy for ALPS General Secretary and make my endorsement of a Harry Truman vote by ALPS.

I'll have no part in this blatant attempt to turn Atlamerica into a one-party state.

The Socialist Party needs to die in the TL, if only to put an end to this abomination.

The Anti-Socialist crybabies are getting really insufferable, aren't they?

Anyway, I'll go with Sinclair in the name of seniority.

As a Taft supporter, this needs saying...

"Truman, Sinclair is sleeping with your wife."

Why? Can't respect the fact that the majority of people hold views that aren't yours?

No, just don't want this to be boring. That is fundamentally what this idea would cause. Boringness. Huzzah for the third term of LBJ and all, but if this takes hold it'll cause nothing but 70% elections every single time.

Whoever gets the "Ambassador to Myself" position will be interesting...

In any case, we should probably just make this the general election thread.

You want The Socialist Party to die AND you don't want a one-party state?

You can't have both of those, man. The Socialists are the only thing saving us from  eternal Democratic rule.

How are the Socialists vs. the Democrats vs. the Republicans a one-party state? As Sewer said, if the Socialists go, they'll all vote Democratic and that'll be a one-party state for sure.

No, I support the three-party state. I'm not sure what this is about; I just don't want the extra Progressive ticket (though I guess that's been settled).

What do you mean "extra"? It was there in real life. No extra about it. If anything, the Socialists are "extra".

Wait, I thought the one party state thing had to do with TNF wanting all of the anti-Taft voters to unite behind one candidate, not the Porgressive-Socialist unity ticket...

The presence of the Socialists make a Wallace candidacy redundant. If a strong Socialist Party had existed in 1948, Wallace would either have run under their banner or not run at all.

Because this is a what-if after all, not a weird elections series...

But the elections you put up have to make some sense... If this were just "let's vote on this random list of candidate", you wouldn't bother writing lengthy descriptions of the race, of each candidate and of a President's term.
