Nor surprising. More and more, in most elections around the world left=city, right=countryside (through, there is exceptions like Scandinavia).


You don't have to look further than Ontario. Which is more rural, north or south Ontario?

Terrible example. Northern Ontario is more remote than "rural". Rural southern Ontario is very Conservative, while urban Southern Ontario is quite left wing.  Northern Ontario is a whole different story, as it's quite a complex area, where you have Francophones, Italians, Natives, mining towns, actual legitimate rural (read Farming areas), WASPy area, etc that make for strange patterns. But, it's only like 7% of the province's population.
