This particular "relaxation" of Krazen's does not appear to be brief.

Having him on ignore for this is a somewhat surreal experience. Has he used 'dominating' yet?

So far just "soaring" and "landslide".

'Soaring'? Really? That's a new one.

Also, I wouldn't call a 9 Point Victory over a Liberal Democrat in a safe republican district a Soaring one.

Back at the end of the primary I did say Sanford would win by "double digits" I was at least close to being right. Really not surprising, Colbert-Busch was a poor candidate and Sanford really did run a good campaign, terrible person though.

This whole election was a total circus, he may well lose the primary in 14 though.

She wasn't liberal though. She was against Obamacare and distinguished herself as FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE. Socially liberal, sure, but she sure wasn't a Liberal.

The moralism in this thread is nauseating. Same as it was over Bill Clinton 15 years ago. It's not an election for boy scout leader. It's about who gets to write laws. A Republican district elected a Republican, who will vote for Republican initiatives. It makes more sense than electing somebody you don't agree with out of spite.

I was talking about the social aspect of it.

I'm glad you seem to be so happy when adulterers are elected to Congress!

The results are quite amusing to be sure, and worthy of a nice brandy, but adulterers have been getting elected to Congress for 230 years.

Yes go have your brandy and go celebrate the election of this adulterer who you like so much. You don't have to take your excitement out on us anymore.

I wouldn't call the district's portion of Charleston to be a "safe Republican" area, yet, Sanford carried it.

If this were Britain, the pundits would of course be quick to point out the 6-7% swing against the 'main opposition' party to the 'incumbent' party (i.e. the one that controls the White House). Yeah, yeah, there's no such thing as uniform national swing in America and Britain has a very different model of government and so on, but still.

Sanford's adultery wasn't the main problem (although it does look bad on public display), the problem was that he left the state without a word and used state money to do it.

I don't know how I would've voted if I lived in that district.    I might would've just stayed home.  Squinting  But, in all honesty, I think he'll be better than Busch.   Truth is, he'll likely be challenged heavily in the primaries.

This is how I feel too. I'm no Democrat, but I'd still find it hard to vote for Sanford. I hope he gets primaried in 2014!

I must say that this whole time, I wanted Sanford to lose simply because he is a Republican. I'm no Democrat, and I regularly support third-party candidates, but events of recent years have caused me to develop an intense hatred for the Republican Party.

I wonder how a conservative Democrat, perhaps like former Gov Jim Hodges would have done against Sanford (if he lived in the district).  Perhaps better than a political novice.

McCain smuggles the false premise that those that support Mark Sanford will go on to claim gay couples will ruin marriage.

Don't you know?  You're allowed to stereotype people if you're a liberal.

You shouldn't make statements one way or the other unless you can prove them.

Are you going to have a brandy too in celebration of the adulterer's win?

Also, I wouldn't call a 9 Point Victory over a Liberal Democrat in a safe republican district a Soaring one.

I wouldn't call the district's portion of Charleston to be a "safe Republican" area, yet, Sanford carried it.

You obviously don't know the district then.   If anything, the portion of Charleston that is in the first is a few points more Republican than the district as a whole.  While Charleston County as a whole is less Republican than the district, that is because the VRA gerrymander splits off many Black Charleston County Democrats from the 1st.

I am surprised that Sanford did as well as he did, as of this morning I was expecting something like a five point margin for him.  Kudos to him in successfully nationalizing the race, not that doing so will help him in the 2014 primary. Incumbency might, but not as much as for some incumbents.  The district is safe Republican so there's no need for the GOP to ensure it has the advantage of incumbency in the general election, and his morals should cause some who agree with him on the issues to be reluctant to spend money backing him unless they've reached their limits in other races, so I suspect he won't have the typical level of financial advantage for an incumbent.

Peter Hamby on Twitter just now: "Chances Sanford will consider running for SEN or GOV in a few years? 100%." God forbid.

That would be one sure way to get him out of the seat.  No way he wins a statewide primary race in which he has no money advantage as he did in this special election.  He might survive a primary challenge for his current seat as he's the incumbent, but I hope not.  The GOP can do better than him and should have done better than him in this election.

Pray tell, how exactly did you celebrated the election, and reelection of the serial adulterer Bill Clinton?

Um, are you good at math? I'm 21 this month, so I would have been in kindergarden when Clinton was reelected. I really followed politics closely back then!
