Well if Louisiana likes Diaper Dave so much, I'd prefer they keep him to themselves in the governor's mansion as opposed to inflicting him upon the rest of the nation in the Senate.

The NYt poll shows Jindal and Obama having identical 40/54 approvals. In what has regrettably been the trend lately, Vitter is the most popular state official, at 51/35.

Why is Vitter so popular? He doesn't seem particularly likable, and of course there's the prostitute diaper thing.

At first I thought those poll numbers were for Edwin Edwards (lol).

Anyway, the DC area prostitutes are sure going to miss Vitter if he becomes governor.

I have a hard time believing the diaper baby is actually going to lose. Even if he goes into the runoff heavily behind, he'll just need to run a few "Edwards = Obama!11!!!!" ads for a comfortable win. The Brownback template.

Here's hoping I'm wrong though.

Will Vitter go to the brothel for comfort if he loses?

Miles, if Edwards really was up 20+ points, why would he run the "prostitutes over patriots" ad? Don't get me wrong, I think it's amazing, but I'm a liberal godless Democrat, and Edwards is trying to appeal to moderates and conservatives in a heavily red state that have given Vitter a pass in 2010 for this already. It seems like the kind of ad a candidate in desperation mode runs (like Godless, Aqua Buddha, etc.)

Is it just based on his personal disgust for Vitter rather than politics? You'd think if he was really crushing he'd want to play it safe and not risk a backlash/sympathy for Vitter.

^ From what I'm getting from my friends working on the campaign, think it was more a reaction to the Kentucky result than anything else. The Edwards team knows that they can't be comfortable unless they did everything possible to make sure Vitter was (electorally) as dead as possible - the Kentucky polling collapse affirmed that.

Vitter wasn't really pressed much (no pun intended) on the scandal in 2010. When it came up, it was usually more of a side note. As the Democrats are trying to make this a referendum on Vitter, looks like they're trying to get more mileage out of Vitter's personal issues this time.

I do remember Melancon bringing it up near the end of the campaign, but I guess doing it so close to the end just made it look like desperation. Why do you think Dems gave him a pass for it in 2010?

So according to the pundits, Dems losing in deep red Kentucky was an ominous sign for them in the presidential race in 2016, so I guess Dems winning in deep red Louisiana must mean they're in for a guaranteed landslide!

Eh, I think it's a little bit of both.

Obvious Clinton vs. Rubio map:

Now we need to find another 20 or so John Bel's to sweep Southern gubernatorial and senatorial races.

Won't work without 20 Diaper Daves too...

I wonder if Jindal will try and run for Senate lol

Hopefully. That's the only way a Democrat could win it.

Will Edwards win by a bigger margin than Cassidy? Remaining vote looks like mainly Orleans.

Looks like 56.1-43.9 will be the final spread. So Edwards wins by a larger margin than Cassidy and Nungesser. On top of that, he's carried Jefferson Parish with 100% in. Dominating!

Final numbers with all precincts in:

Edwards: 646,860 (56.1%)
Vitter: 505,929 (43.9%)

Nungesser: 628,864 (55.4%)
Holden: 506,578 (44.6%)

Landry: 610,433 (56.3%)
Caldwell (inc.): 473,869 (43.7%)

It's actually kind of shocking an underfunded black Democrat nearly came within single digits of a generic R. No doubt the work of Vitter's reverse coattails.

Miles, I'm surprised you haven't mentioned nutjob Lenar Whitney losing her state House seat by 22 points (!).

Thanks for telling me! Haha

Its funny, I got into an argument with her last year on Twitter. She was defending Elbert Guillory. Pretty sweet that both of them are out of office now! Smiley

Yeah, I was just randomly scrolling through the AP results page, and knew I recognized her name from somewhere. I Googled it and remembered.

I think we all know Piyush voted for Edwards. Honestly though, he couldn't win this race. Either way it was a rebuke to him considering how often both candidates threw him under the bus. I'm kind of wondering if his drop out wasn't timed just so he didn't have to suffer embarrassment from this while still in the presidential arena.
