The only two living former Presidents who qualify for a second term, each one somehow winning their party's nomination. Who would win? Discuss with maps.

Depends on their VP nominee. Do you want to decide that or leave it to us?

Poppy Bush would win against most folks the Democrats could put up... widely revered as a moderate, a war hero, and a good man

I would vote Bush, but as for who would win, I'm not so sure.

Chances are one or both of them will be dead by 2016.

But I vote Bush.

I'd definitely vote Bush and I think he'd win with about 320 EVs.

What's funny is that if this really happened, the map would look the opposite of what it was when Jimmy won in '76 -- he'd pick up Illinois, Michigan and California but would get wiped out in the south.

ELECTION 2016

After a pair of brokered conventions, George H. W. Bush and Jimmy Carter were nominated as compromise candidates for their respective parties for the Presidential election. Both nominees chose for their Veep the politician they believe to be the future of their party. Because of dissatisfaction with how the convention debacles were handled, there is a third party challenge from both Rick Santorum (who has no love for the Bush family) and Jennifer Granholm (going into the DNC, Granholm had the most delegates at 1,972).

Granholm? Canadian-born, and more importantly, my former Governor?

This is a map based on the voting records of the years when Carter or HW Bush ran. (76, 80, 88, 92) Even if Carter won all swing states, Bush would still win in this scenario.

60%= voted for that party all 4 times.
50%=voted for that party 3 out of 4 times.
tossups=voted for each party twice
