Not really, Alaskans are more moderate in their views (although they certainly tend to vote Republican). If there's a candidate that's bad enough, a Dem can establish a foothold (like 2008). It almost happened to him... no idea what the bench there looks like now.

Eh, I wouldn't be so sure. This guy has been through everything and above and has still managed to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat many a time. Maybe it'll be his time soon, but I don't think this is absolute.

No it's not.  Racism is far worse.  If you told the average Mexican that a US Congressman was involved in corruption they would just shrug.  If you told them he was in the habit of getting on radio shows and referring to them as "wetbacks" I think you would get a stronger reaction.  How much it bothers someone else from the broader society depends on how much empathy and decency they have.

I understand shock jocks and people making jokes using the term "wetback."  It is still wrong and I don't want to hear it.  But this guy wasn't making a joke.  He seriously thought in 2013 that was a perfectly reasonable thing to call a Mexican.  As a Mexican American do you want this guy representing you and your family?
