It's a deliberate attempt to challenge Roe v Wade. If it hits the courts and they keep appealing, they could land another abortion SCOTUS case which would overturn abortion rights. It's incredibly tragic to watch the right continue its deliberate war on women.

In all seriousness though, I agree that the point is to get an abortion case to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade. There's no way the right could ever get a constitutional amendment through, so I guess this is the most effective way to go about banning abortion.
