Patti Davis (Reagan daughter) says that her dad would have supported gay marriage.

I don't know if she's correct, but I think that Ronald Reagan would have had less of a problem with it than Nixon.  Ronald Reagan was laid-back on many things, which was sometimes good, sometimes bad.

I think that Nixon is the only person on this list who would actively oppose gay marriage. I think that even Reagan would at least have a federalist position on the issue.

I don't think Reagan would've come out in favor of it, but I don't think he would've taken a strong line against it.

Ford came out in favor of it before his death, no?

What about dead presidential runner-ups since 1960?  I'm pretty sure that ALL of them would have supported it.  They were Goldwater, Humphrey, and McGovern after all.

I don't think McCain or Romney support gay marriage.  (EDIT: Of course, they're alive, so that's not really the question.)

Do Kerry, Gore, Dole, Perot, Dukakis and Mondale?

Goldwater - Might have (HATED the Religious Right)
Humphrey - Would
McGovern - I'm pretty sure he endorsed hit long before he died last year
Mondale - Pretty sure he endorses it
Dukakis - Same with Mondale
Perot - Endorses it
Dole - Does not endorse it, but pledged to ban discrimination based on sexuality
Gore - Endorses it
Kerry - Endorses it

Suppose that Goldwater was still alive in 2004, witnessing his party call for a constitutional amendment banning SSM.  He would have been outraged, and he would have made that clear.  Barry never hesitated to speak his mind.

You forgot Wallace. But he wouldn't endorse it.

All but Nixon and Ford would oppose. Ford for civil unions .

For those who think everybody would support it except Reagan you fail to factor in one crucial thing. Religion. I'd actually see Nixon supporting it .

On Regan and Coolidge: A Federalist or even a Ron Paul view. I in fact am a Federalist on this. I don't think that the SCOTUS should be involve themselves on this issue. Yes I'm against it and will never evolve on that but for the federal government to be involved is totally wrong.

So Kennedy would oppose it because he's a Catholic, even though Ted supported it as well as many other modern-day Catholics? That is unreasonably stupid.
