What do you think Europe will be like in 20-25 years from now economically?

Europe's economy has been in the doldrums lately so I wanted to know what you guys think about this subject.

This is really hard to answer, there are a lot of factors which will decides the future development of Europe.

But let start with what we know, in 20 years the European GDP will be significant higher, simply because the former communist countries will have begin to reach western Europe.
That's a given short of something completely unforseen.

What do we know won't happen:
Eurabia won't happen. It's a idiotic idea created by people who don't understand statistic.

So let us move to likely things to happen.
In twenty years the EU are still around and so are the Euro. Beside maybe UK and Greece no land will have left EU, and both of those are less than likely to leave, through Greece may have left the Euro.

Germany are still the biggest country and the biggest economy, the French economy will not have collapsed yet, as Anglo economists have predicted the last 200 years (next year). Turkey may be member or almost member of EU or it may not.

EU will likely be the biggest economy in the world still, but Europe are a smaller part of the world economy, simply because of the growth of the 3rd world. But EU will still be number 1, USA 2, and China 3. Of course if China succeed in keeping their explosive growth they will be number one, but I don't think they will be able to do so, there are already indication that the numbers for Chinese growth wear a lot of make up. India will be the next up and coming, but again internal problem will keep it from outgrow the 3 big ones.

The major European problem is the rising age and low birth rate3, and it may  be a big problem some places. But Germany have pushed the issue into the future, thanks to the migration of highly skilled young labour from South Europe in these years. But if Italy haven't kick started their growth, they will be suffering under a too little workforce. France have avoided it thanks to a high population growth.

Wishful thinking prediction: That people stop to think of Europe as a continent.
