But it's a recent phenomenon.

And it's the individuals that make it news-worthy.

This doesn't "pollute" the forum at all, it's us documenting a historical shift unfolding before our eyes, nothing like this has ever really been seen before.

Here's a compromise - just keep the "...And now" thread title for US Senators (and any popular House members) who endorse gay marriage.

Yeah, some random Republican or Democrat ex-politician does not deserve their own thread - even if it's Olympia Snowe.

I think you switched Enyart's district in Illinois.

Why is she being even more ambiguous about this than Landrieu?

Because the Maine GOP is filled with Paul LePage-like crazies who would primary her if she did.

So wouldn't "leave it up to the states" equate to "do not support at the federal level" which is really the level at which most of the inequalities exist?

Weak, Collins.

Yikes, that's really shocking coming from her. This likely means that she opposes it, but doesn't want to say it outright. I fully expected her to support it.

She's trying to stake a moderate hero position so she doesn't get primaried. Remember she was always a bit more partisan than Snowe.

Collins really, really doesn't need to worry about the primary. LePage was a freak accident. Collins, like Snowe, can't be primaried.

Anyways, in related news, the Senate of France has passed a provision legalizing gay marriage (but there are other amendments that are going to be offered before they vote on the whole package, but if the gay marriage provision already passed then it seems certain).

I wonder if France, the UK, and the USA will all legalize gay marriage by July...

In a few years an animation of the map from 2005-2020 will probably look like one of those animations from a movie/tv show about a viral outbreak...except stemming from two hotzones...one in Boston and one in San Francisco

It's starting to become the default GOP answer as they cross their fingers and hope against hope that their nasty little pockets of intolerance will go undisturbed.

Please, nobody act surprised about Collins. If you do, you don't really know anything about her views.

Ron Kind's announcement is significant because if he wants to run for Governor or Senator, he'd need to have this position to get though a Democratic primary in Wisconsin.

The Hill had a piece on this a few weeks ago.

I think Cedric Richmond would vote yes if push came to shove.
