By that, I'm not talking about the magazine but what is according to dictionary.com "a man who lives a life devoted chiefly to the pursuit of pleasure."

They're liberal attitudes towards sex probably makes them lean D, but a lot of them tend to be wealthy and may lean R. So its sort of an equal pull.

I have this image in my head of a douchey guy in his 30s who lives in Phoenix, drives a leased BMW, and wears Ed Hardy shirts to go pick up 20 year old girls at clubs. And I have no idea how such a person would vote.

If said person lived about twenty five years ago he'd be a solid Republican.

Now, not so sure.  Depends on the area he lives in.  I imagine, given the image and reputation, he probably votes whatever gets him laid (since there is no longer as much of a financial stake).

I'd say they are more likely to a Republican because of the estate tax. But not overwhelming, and they might not care much about politics. They could also vote Democratic because of gay marriage or abortion.

Sounds like my 3rd cousin... well not sure about all the details, but he does live in Phoenix and works at the Playboy mansion (or used to?)

Anyways, if he's any indication, then probably GOP. These guys can love their guns, and are probably anti-feminist judging by their lifestyle.

I'm pretty sure most of these types would be Republicans.  They would want taxes to be low, and even with the GOP's best efforts they would find the best areas to hit up strip clubs, acquire the services of high-end prostitutes, etc.

How playboys have voted since 1945:

1948: Dewey (R)
1952: Eisenhower (R)
1956: Eisenhower (R)
1960: Kennedy (D)
1964: Johnson (D)
1968: Nixon (R)
1972: Nixon (R)
1976: Ford (R)
1980: Reagan (R)
1984: Reagan (R)
1988: Bush (R)
1992: Perot (I)
1996: Clinton (D)
2000: Bush (R) - McCain in the primaries
2004: Bush (R)
2008: McCain (R) - Romney in the primaries
2012: Romney (R)

Strip club owners and patrons are definitely mostly Democrats here. One was even a Democrat on the Albert Lea city council.

The few people I know of who actually have enough money to be an authentic playboy are almost automatically Republicans (in the Torie style).  I have a couple of moderately wealthy older friends back in the US who do know a lot of guys in the late middle-age-to nearing retirement age-range who by virtue of fairly large wealth (maybe in the 10 million range, with disposable incomes even after the various divorces in at least the several hundreds of thousands) can afford to keep mistresses, and do - typically the 'college girl' type.  Check 'sugar daddy dot com' type sites for participants in this fantasy.

I really don't think it is at all accurate to consider a 'douchey guy in his 30s who tries to pick up 20 year old girls in bars' to be a playboy.  After all surely such a person must in fact almost invariably fail to pick up his target..

I recall reading somewhere that the brothel owners out in rural Nevada are as a rule quite Republican.

Well in terms of donations, they give a lot to people from both parties.

Of course let's compare the partisan breakdown of rural Nevada to that of Minneapolis or even Albert Lea, and it makes a bit more sense.

If they're in LA and work in Entertainment, they're Dems for sure. I would assume a large percentage of them would be moderate Republicans or Libertarians.

Basically they could care less about abortion, gays, or drug laws. As long as they get their tax cut to spend on overpriced vodka and strippers, it's all good.

I'd assume it largely depends on where they live, varying based on the predisposition of the parties in their area.

For example, there probably aren't many Republican "playboys" in the South, because the GOP in the region defines itself almost entirely through "Christian values" and conservative stances on wedge issues.

I'm pretty sure you can safely assume that these people are mostly non-voters, though. Unless you go with the opebo, definition-- if so, yeah, they're pretty much all Torie Republicans.

Considering that playboys tend to be male (of course), heterosexual, middle-aged, and probably put off by Christian-right rhetoric (and probably less interested in the "inside baseball" aspect of politics and therefore less likely to buck a societal trend, say by switching from Goldwater to Humphrey) I'd say going back to 1952:

1952: Stevenson 45% Eisenhower 55%
1956: Stevenson 42% Eisenhower 58%
1960: Kennedy 55% Nixon 45%
1964: Johnson 66% Goldwater 34%
1968: Humphrey 48% Nixon 42% Wallace 10%
1972: McGovern 42% Nixon 56%
1976: Carter 52% Ford 46%
1980: Carter 37% Reagan 54% Anderson 7%
1984: Mondale 38% Reagan 62%
1988: Dukakis 45% Bush 54%
1992: Clinton 45% Bush 34% Perot 20%
1996: Clinton 55% Dole 36% Perot 7%
2000: Gore 52% Bush 44%
2004: Kerry 54% Bush 45%
2008: Obama 61% McCain 37%
2012: Obama 58% Romney 40%

I'm thinking of someone like Howard Stern as an example, fiscal conservative and social liberal swing voter with a hatred of both the religious right and feminists. Possibly hawkish on foreign policy also as an extension of there hatred of religious fundamentalism.

Vocal Democrat is public, votes straight ticket Republican once he's in the voting booth.

If you were to count Red Pill/PUA/seduction types as "playboys", then if Heartiste (formerly Roissy) is any indication, then right-wing, anti-feminist, socially conservative.

If Hugh Hefner is a better indication, then libertarian-leaning Democrats.

Fiscally conservative, socially liberal. Probably vote for whomever the "cool" or "popular" candidate is so they always look like a winner.

I have a friend who used "I voted for Hillary" to pick up women from like 2008-2010 to pretty significant effect.

How old were these women? I would have thought that at least for younger women, Obama was the cooler candidate.

Most of the people I've met who are super promiscuous and straight are very, very Republican.
