Gass and I are both in talks with the GM and should soon be getting exact numbers on what this should cost, as well as revenue projections for the next few years. Smiley

If I may butt in, wasn't the high speed rail proposal suppose to be taken up by the Senate, or is this strictly a regional issue?  I need to know for future NE plans. Smiley

Thanks for that reminder, Napoleon - actually, we included the money from that act into the transportation section of our last budget. We can take the money for this from there.

Does the Northeast still have the funds that were allocated to us?

I believe the lines are completed. Construction began under Governor Winfield.

I think it's a wise decision to invest in high-speed rail systems, and it's very convenient if there's federal money we can use for such a project. At the same time, however, we will have to make sure that we keep investing in maintaining and improving existing infrastructure (e.g. roads, bridges, electric power supply), but we can deal with that in a separate bill or when we debate the next budget proposal.

I most definitely support this, and I don't think we should have any reasons to reject this proposal. Railwail transportation is efficient, environmental friendly, and it would greatly improve transportation on the Mideast. Besides, it's a moderate proposal with a reasonable budget, and I have reasons to think that it will pay itself very quickly.

Since there's no rush on this, we'll wait for the GM's analysis before voting on it.  Although I don't envision any problems.

Is there a reason that this is limited mostly to the western side of the region? Does the east (VA, KY, etc.) have decent high speed rail or other public transportation already?

I'd like to know this too Plus maybe introducing some more buslines as well.

As I said, I support this bill and I am not going to change my mind, but this is a very good question.

Well, if the Assembly is interested, we could entertain the idea of extending the busline all the way to Peter's Park.

If we're cutting out a city, why do we need an extra $400 million?

I propose the preceding amendment.

I like the idea of adding more, but the language of this is really confusing. I'll try to post an amendment later tonight.

Hey, y'all,

Since there's already a Nyman-Baltimore-Philly-NYC-Boston high-speed rail line, I was wondering if, as part of this legislation, you would consider construction of a high-speed rail from Nyman across the Potomac to Richmond and the border, where it could connect to our Charlotte-Greensboro-Raleigh/Durham line that we're planning to extend down to Greenville and Atlanta? It would integrate our transportation system much better and make travelling easier.

That would be great. And this entire bill is great idea. You've really outdone yourself with this of Gass Wink.

That actually makes sense since traffic doesn't stop at regional borders.

Here is a map of the proposed rail lines:

Red is lines that are under-construction or already finished
Blue is lines that are proposed in this legislation
Green is lines that I would like to propose in the future

Thoughts?
