Fortunately he's radioactive even among Pubs, but still a distraction for Treadwell. Ugh. Exploratory committee means he's probably in.

Dude, people don't like you. Move on.

Hopefully Treadwell squashes this nuisance. Thank God Lisa was able to survive.

Can the DSCC just pump money in this guy's campaign like they did with Akin's?

That would almost be too much to hope for.

He won't get the Republican nomination, but Alaska has been open to write-ins/well-performing third-party candidates in the past, which is more frightening. He's not Todd Akin come again but he could pull off a Dan Cox.

Can the DSCC just pump money in this guy's campaign like they did with Akin's?

See, it worked with Akin because nobody found out till later. National Republicans will be on the lookout this time, and if it's discovered it'll backfire on the candidate getting support like that spectacularly.

Begich is one of my favorite senators from either side, so I hope Miller gets the nom, but its not likely.

FWIW, the AKGOP is in pretty crappy shape. Its already gone through two party chairmen this year.

I think that Begich will be reelected. He can thank Joe Miller who will weaken Mead Treadwell in any cases.

Treadwell is openly questioning  the AKGOP's ability to run a competent campaign against Begich.

Is Begich just the luckiest Senator ever? I mean, every door seems to open for this guy electorally.

Are there any major figures in Alaskan politics who have the capacity to self-finance and self-organize well enough to run against Begich as an independent candidate and pose a legitimate threat?

Miller isn't getting the nomination, but Treadwell can self-finance.

I would not mind him knocking out Don Young. We need this Senate seat, and Treadwell is the way were going to get it.

I'd love Berkowitz to run if Miller does.

Treadwell self-financed his campaign for Lieutenant Governor in 2010, I believe. There's no reason to think he wouldn't do so again. (Also, RRH has a link to a source that says Miller is leaning towards running, has met and had a "frank" discussion with Senator Moran, but is waiting to meet with Sarah Palin!!! before he decides whether or not to run). First off, it's kinda bizarre to see Palin still has real influence anywhere, but I really do wonder what she would say to him.

I would be interested to know what the relationship between Treadwell and Palin is. His boss was afterall her Lieutenant Governor.

I wouldn't mind him knocking out Don Young and I believe we need this Senate seat too. From the opposite side of the aisle, of course, but picking up a House seat while keeping the Senate one would be cool.

I also support Joe Miller knocking Young out. In that case I also support Berkowitz running too.

While Miller would be adequate enough to keep this seat Democratic, some in the tea party are going a step further to help Begich:

I wouldn't be too worried about Sarah Palin in the Senate. Given her track record, she'd probably just quit after a year or two anyway to try to pitch a reality show for whichever of her kids gets impregnated next.

We'll have a better idea of how hard Begich will have to work after tomorrow, when Parnell announces his plans.
