Presidential Primaries Heat Up

It is impossible to say who leads in the Republican primary in Iowa - at least 5 candidates are very close to the lead, and several more are within striking distance. It's anyone's game. Meanwhile, among the Democrats, Senator Bernie Sanders has launched a primary challenge to incumbent President Barack Obama - whether or not this challenge is successful or not remains in the air.

Debate Questions
Tonight's debate question (for all candidates) is: What is your campaign's policy regarding the Federal Reserve?

This turn will be open 48 hours. Please PM me for endorsements (endorsements and news stories start next turn).

Mrs. Bachmann responds:

"Of course the American public needs to know what the Federal Reserve is doing with its money. The Federal Reserve needs to be audited immediately: we can't have all this big government running around and poking its nose in America's business! America is not the government, America is the people, and the government and ordinary people, like our small businesses, are two diametrically opposed things."

Governor Huntsman response:
"As President, I will pursue a strong and stable dollar, and will appoint Federal Reserve Board Governors and a Chairman who believe in sound money. The United States cannot devalue our way to prosperity and efforts to do so risk another round of devaluations, which will ultimately harm American exporters and risk the dollar’s privileged position as the primary global reserve currency."

Rapid Response Director: Kevin Kellems.
Chief Fundraising Officer: Brian McGrath.

Iowa Chief of Operations: Doug Gross.
New Hampshire Chief of Operations: Mike Dennehy.
Political Strategists: Anne Hathaway and Cam Savage.
Special Advisor: Cheri Daniels.

Debate Response:

"I've always believed that no enterprise, small or large, public or private, can remain self-governing, let alone successful, so deeply in hock to others as we are about to be. My experience in the private sector and my time in the Office of Management and Budget taught me that the Federal Reserve (as any enterprise) needs to be managed in a responsible way, and my biggest concern comes in the way of how the Federal Reserve handles debt. Or, as I call it: the new Red Menace, this time consisting of ink. I agree with Governor Huntsman on the necessity of appointing a Chairman and Governors concerned with the dollar, but I would push for a better examination of the Federal Debt."

Governor Huckabee Response:

"I feel like most Americans there should be an audit of the Federal Reserve. I do not support abolishing of the Federal Reserve, at this time, but I do think the Federal Reserve should be held accountable and the American should be able to see what is happening. Accountability and trust in government should be the cornerstone of all institutions and it is past time for Congress to act and audit the reserve."

Herman Cain Debate Response:
While I do back a full audit of the federal reserve in the name of transparency, I do not see what the big deal is about all of this fear mongering on my side about it.  The Federal Reserve has a job; and that job is to keep inflation under control. I disagree with many of Ben Bernanke's action as the chair of the Federal Reserve, however, I am not one to fear monger over this issue.

"We need a President with the right priorities to solve the right problems with the right solutions, and I think I am the right man for the job!

Tomorrow, is one day closer to the White House. I really believe that Herman Cain will put UNITED, back in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and if I didn't believe that, I wouldn't be here. We've run a campaign like nobody has seen, but then again, nobody has seen a candidate quite like Herman Cain. We need you to get involved, because together, we can do this, WE CAN TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK"

Obama Schedule for Week of October 3rd

"I believe in an active Federal Reserve that will focus on driving down unemployment and protects consumers, but will promote a strong dollar and provide a competent environment for investors and business leaders. Ben Bernanke has done an excellent job so far."- President Obama at Press Conference

Obama Schedule for Week of October 3rd
October 3rd: White House Work
October 4th: White House Work
October 5th: Flight to Des Moines, Iowa and Speech on Economic Plan

"Folks, I'm gonna do something crazy. I'm gonna tell the truth. This intransigent GOP Congress has blocked and filibustered every proposal I've made to get this economy where it needs to be. Now we've made it far from where we were back in '09. We've stopped digging the hole. Now we've got to fill it back up. Both of our messages are clear. The GOP says: "He's had 4 years and he still isn't finished fixing the mess we've made. Put us back in and we'll do it." My message is clear: "In the past 4 years we've created 3 Million Jobs, ended that War in Iraq, Killed OBL, cut the defict by billions, and saved the auto industry. Now we're nowhere where we need to be. But give me a little longer and a Democratic Congress and I'll give you that chance that your family deserves. Help me win the race for the future."- Obama in Iowa

October 6th: Flight to Los Angeles, California for Fundraiser
October 7th: Appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher
October 9th: Flight to Washington, DC

Campaign Staff & Headquarters for "Obama For America 2012"
Campaign Manager: David Plouffe
Deputy Campaign Managers: Jim Messina and Stephanie Cutter
Senior Strategists: David Axelrod & James Carville

Debate Response
While I was one of the cosponsors of the bill that would audit the fed, I realize that this is a necessary evil which we have to deal with.  We need to know what the fed is doing, but I do not call for it to be dissolved.  What we need  to do as Americans is see what our government is wasting money on, and cut that, and not do what the democrats would do and tax hard working Americans who make the money. Thank You, and God Bless America.

Mitt Romney, speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Merrimack, New Hampshire

My friends, four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement over the prospects of a new President. Their choice was not our party, but Americans always come together after elections, because we are united by so much more than what divides us.

However, under the leadership of President Obama, we've just seen more partisanship and more division. He's already playing the blame game, arguing that Republican opposition has kept him from being able to save our economy. President Obama had a Congress that was behind him for the first part of this term, and all we saw during that period was more spending and more bad policies that put us further down the wrong path. We've already had several years of that - we simply cannot afford four more. As Governor of Massachusetts, I worked with legislature controlled by Democrats to balance the budget and enact legislation that put Massachusetts first in the nation for education. We need a President that unites us - I have the experience and the abilities to do just that.

Mitt Romney, greeting students at The Citadel University in Charleston, South Carolina

It is absolutely necessary to our nation's future that the youth of America become well versed on America's heritage, history, culture, and the principles that founded this nation. If now, how can they be expected to defend the freedoms that this nation were founded on, or use the knowledge to critically examine current issues and become informed voters?

2008 was great for America in that we saw a huge spark of interest among young voters in America. Despite having a record number of youth voting, we still only had fifty-two percent of folks between the ages of eighteen and thirty voting. Our education system has not equipped our children with what is needed to maintain a strong democratic republic, and it is essential that more outreach is done to reach our youngest Americans, as the policies we enact today will affect them more than anyone.

Mitt Romney for President...Believe in America

Debate Response:

Governor Mitt Romney weighs in on the Federal Reserve

Well, the first thing I can promise you is that under my administration, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will be not continue on in his current position. I oppose recent tactics that have been made under his leadership, primarily the quantitative easing steps that have been put in place. His policies have not helped get American back to work. It did not get the economy moving again. Our growth is not at the level it should be in what President Obama considers a "recovery", which is just another example of failed leadership coming from this administration.

Like many other Republicans, I believe that the Federal Reserve has gotten out of control, and it certainly should be audited. They need to be held accountable for their actions.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Fighting for America-
Hutchinson on the Today Show
[/i]

"The time for the Presidents shenanigans is over. Calling this economy an improvement is a gross overstatement. Too many people are without homes because of this administrations policies, too many children without food, and too many people out of work. This is our only way forward. America needs a new real change in Washington and I think I can be the one to bring it. I mean look at me, I'm a woman (laughter). But kidding aside, this election is for the heart and soul of our very nation and we need someone whose going to stand with the middle class and not someone who will promote class warfare. Dividing and conquering ain't gonna work Mr. President. Not on us and not on this nation.

Debate Response:

Quite frankly the Federal Reserve's policies are hurting our nation. It is ruining our economy and because of men like Ben Bernanke our people are suffering. Its time to audit the fed. I support Senator Thune's bill 100% and think its time we shuffle up the leadership within the institution. Things cannot continue the way they have been. Its irresponsible and isn't what the American people deserve and anyone in Washington should admit to that. The time for posturing is over. If elected these shenanigans will stop and our people can work together on a way forward. America needs this.

Mitt Romney for President: Believe in America

On The Record: Campaign Strategy

Governor Mitt Romney discusses with Greta how his campaign will operate

Greta: Governor, other candidates have outlined their campaign strategy in recent days. How does your campaign plan to operate?
RomneySad Well, Greta, one thing that has always bothered me is when candidates only focus on certain states, aiming to scrape by with just enough momentum to clinch the nomination. That's not how our campaign is going to be - I am running to be President of all of America, and plan to campaign in every state along the way, despite long odds in some.
Greta: Four years ago when you were running, your campaign lead for much of the way in Iowa, only to falter in the end to Mike Huckabee, who is also running again this time. Will Iowa be a focus of your campaign again, or will you focus primarily on New Hampshire and South Carolina?
Romney: Well Greta, like I said, we're going to campaign in every state. Iowa is the first state in the nation to vote - we plan on investing as much resources as needed to win there. I believe in America...I believe that the vision I have for this nation can be beneficial for all, and believe we can be successful in spreading that message in Iowa and every other state. We already have several campaign offices in the Hawkeye state and plan on setting up several more - we learned from our mistakes four years ago, and this time, I am comMITTed (Tongue) to winning Iowa, not only in a couple months, but also next November. The failed policies of the Obama administration have stifled job growth in Iowa and around this great country, and we need a President that can turn our economy around

Governor Huckabee on his primary opponents and chances against President Obama:
"To defeat President Obama, Republicans are going to have rally around a candidate that can unite the base and reach out to and win the independents, who will decide whether or not a Republican sits behind the Oval Office in January 2013. I believe I am that candidate. I feel our strength is with the grassroots, it's what made me so successful four years ago. Second, I have a record, unlike President Obama that I can run on. I can't be painted into a corner as a flip flopper or a moderate like some candidates might be, but I can go toe-to-toe with the President. I've cut government spending, I've fixed education, I am reformer, the President is a talker, not a doer..."

Ron Paul Campaign Schedule: October 3-9

Debate Question:

I have been a strong critic of the Federal Reserve, and the people are waking up to the danger of a central banking system. Over the past 100 years of the Federal Reserve, our currency has only lost value. Anyone who agrees with a free market should believe in eliminating the Federal Reserve. We must  enable America to return to the type of monetary system envisioned by our Nation's founders: one where the value of money is consistent because it is tied to a commodity such as gold. When you look at the price of gold next to oil, the prices have stayed consistent. The problem is an unaudited bank, causing artificially low interest rates, high inflation and manipulation of currency. We must END THE FED!

Mitt Romney for President: Believe in America

Radio Ad: Conservative Leader
Governor Mitt Romney has released the following 30-second radio advertisement. It will be airing in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Mitt Romney has the leadership, experience, and integrity to make sure President Obama is a one-term President. Mitt Romney...cause it's time we start believing in America again.

Bob Corker: Hi, I'm Bob Corker, and I'm seeking the Republican nomination for President of the United States. I believe in the values that have made America great. As President, I will stand for our second amendment rights and will repeal and replace Obamacare because it is only making the system worst. It's time for our nation to get back on fiscal track, and on day one, I will introduce a balanced budget amendment. We cannot afford four more years of failed leadership. Im Bob Corker and I approve this message.

Radio and TV ad to run in Iowa and New Hampshire:

Ron Paul, the man of consistency, the man who has never backed down from the real issues. Ron Paul has been serving in the congress to protect your rights, ALL of your rights. Your Constitutional rights, Ron Paul won't back down, and never has. Ron Paul is principled, consistent, and unyielding in defending your rights. He has never once voted for a tax increase, never once voted for a debt ceiling increase. Ron Paul: Principled, Consistent, and a true defender of Liberty.

Huckabee Ad Airing in Iowa and South Carolina (Country)

"Mike Huckabee, a man of integrity, a man of principle, a man of vision"

VO: Let us never sacrifice our principles for politics, not now and certainly not ever. Now is not the time for for politics as usual. Now is the time to take a stand and fight for America. Fight for the America we believe in. We don't need politicians who change their positions like a weather vane, we need leaders who will stand up and tell us the truth and actually lead. I offer myself as that candidate, not just for a party and for our country.

I'm Mike Huckabee and I approve this message

Huckabee Ad Airing in Iowa (We Can Do Better)

VO: Folks we can do better. We can do better than sixteen trillion dollars in debt. We can do better than higher taxes on the middle class. We can do better than Obamacare. We can do better with the leadership we currently have. A declining deficit, lower taxes, a health care system based on free markets and choices, and a president who actually stands on his convictions. We can do better and on January 3rd let us begin the first step. In the Iowa Caucuses I ask for your vote.

I'm Mike Huckabee and I approve this message.
