In 2008, it was plausible but highly unlikely. In 2012, after Obamacare, Libya, the UBL raid, and many, many other issues, Ron Paul would just about rather commit suicide than serve as Obama's VP.

Romney Drops Out: Republicans Scrambling!

The week started out with a bang, with Senator Bob Corker announcing his withdrawal and endorsement of Mitt Romney. With his endorsement, Romney appeared to have control in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina...it was clear he had frontrunner status.

However, devastating news was announced on October 29th, when Governor Romney announced that his wife, Ann, had once again developed breast cancer, and it was in the third stage. Citing family, Governor Romney withdrew from the race, also stating that he would only support the eventual nominee. With the announcement, many Romney supporters are left unsure of who to support, though it appears Governor Daniels, Huntsman, and Mr. Cain are in the best position to obtain Romney's base.

Following the withdrawal, PPP released the above national poll. Additionally, they found that 71% of Republican voters said they could change their mind on their first choice.

Endorsement Watch
There will be no endorsements this turn.

Debate Wrapup

Most Republicans had a positive view of each candidate, as most candidates stated their unwavering support for Israel. Governor Romney was seen as the most Presidential by most debate viewers, with Governor Hutchison also giving a strong response. Both George Pataki and Ron Paul received "boo's" during their answer. Additionally, many are beginning to question the seriousness of the Bachmann campaign.

Who won the debate?
Romney: 21%
Hutchison: 16%
Huckabee: 15%
Cain: 12%
Daniels: 10%
Huntsman: 9%
Paul: 7%
Bachmann: 5%
Pataki: 5%

Mitch Daniels's Schedule: From October 31 to November 6, 2011:

A New Beginning:

October 31: Emergency Strategy Meetings in Indianapolis, Indiana.
November 1: Rest.

First Iowa Tour: (With Tim Pawlenty and Dick Lugar):

November 2: Barnstorm in Bettendorf, Marion and Cedar Falls, Iowa.
November 3: Barnstorm in Urbandale, Ankeny and West Des Moines, Iowa.
November 4: Barnstorm, Fundraiser and Rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
November 5: Barnstorm, Fundraiser and Rally in Davenport, Iowa.
November 6: Fundraisers, Barnstorm and Rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

Announcements, Messages and Other Things:

1.- October 29th, Mitch Daniels's brief statement in Manchester, New Hampshire:

"It's really sad to see a good candidate departing the Presidential race, and even more so when that happens in such a tragic situation. As a fellow candidate, I wish Governor Romney and her wife Ann the best of luck in these troubled times, and I'm confident that everything's going to work out just fine for them. Thank you very much for your attention."

2.- November 6th, Speech at a Rally in Des Moines, Iowa:

The oldest education joke I know has to do with the mother who yells out one morning, Billy, get up for school. I don’t want to get up. Billy, get out of bed, it’s time for school. I don’t want to get up. Third try, no answer. Finally, Billy yells, give me three good reasons. The mother says, it’s Monday morning, it’s the first day of a new semester, and you’re the principal.

I believe that I have done some things that will make a profound difference in the lives of children in my state, Indiana. That'll make a significant difference in the economic prospects of
our state if we can implement them well. Those things that we have just done, they traveled in four separate pieces of legislation, each of which I think might fairly have been considered landmark, but they organized themselves more or less into three buckets: teacher quality, freedom to lead, described here as administrative flexibility or responsibility and options for families and options for children.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson: October 31st- November 6th
A New Day for America
Hutchinson answering questions at a Des Moines town hall

"America is going to make another important choice this coming election day, as it has for hundred of years. People, liberal and conservative, will be out in full force to share their views on who they believe is best for this nation. Thats something we all want isn't it? While we may disagree on the way to get there, we all do want a better America. We need to to be troubled by internal bickering and personal attacks as we've seen in the past few weeks, but we should stand united, ready to face our future as one party, or more importantly, as one nation. Together we can do great things and if this campaign makes it til November we will do great things. Its time for the president to quit blaming Bush and start actually focusing this nation's attention on our grave economic conditions. If I am elected I wont blame our past, I'll work for our future. No more will the presidency delve into such partisanship as we've seen over the last few years, no my administration will work for a better America, a stronger America, and ultimately, a safer America.

Monday October 31st, 2011- IOWA

Appearance on the TODAY Show in Des Moines
Townhall in Des Moines on the Economy
Rally in suburban Des Moines
Passing out candy at local Trick-or-treat for Halloween

Tuesday November 1st, 2011- IOWA
Rally in Sioux City
Speech in Mason City on American Opportunity
Barbeque dinner in Mason City
Rally in Mason City

Speech in Mason City on American Opportunity-
"America has been and should be the Land of Opportunity. Our nation is one of a kind and as its grown its seen great change and advancement. We've seen men like Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr and women such as Abigail Adams and Susan B. Anthony. As we continue forward we must remember these great people. Without women like Susan B. Antony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton I probably wouldn't be even given the chance to run this campaign, let alone be a Senator. Without people such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Abraham Lincoln we wouldn't have had amazing leaders such as Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice.
Another great aspect of our nation is our freedoms. We have the freedom to vote, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion. Another freedom we all enjoy is the freedom to choose. Freedom to choose jobs and the chance at success. Thats just one reason why our economy needs to improve. There are so many, too many, Americans unemployed when they do indeed want work. Under a Hutchinson Presidency jobs would be one of my number one priorities. We can not continue on the path we are on currently and that's why we need a new President in the White House. If we do, this American Experiment could be ruined as we have allowed the voices of those who could contribute so much to our society, the common man, who we ought be championing, to fall silent in the midst of intense hatred, partisanship, and division."

Wednesday November 2nd, 2011- IOWA

Saturday, November 5th, 2011- SOUTH CAROLINA

Statement on Gov. Romney's withdrawal-

"Governor Romney was probably one of the most distinguished individuals in this race. I am praying for him and Ann as they go through this difficult time and hope that she emerges victorious in her battle with Breast Cancer. The Romney campaign brought a lot of important issues to the forefront in this campaign and we will continue their discussion."

Herman Cain Ad: Illegal

There is something about Mike Huckabee's record in Arkansas, something... illegal.

When he was Governor of Arkansas, he granted over a 1000 pardons to harmful criminals. He even granted a pardon to a man who would go on to murder the cousin of President Bill Clinton.

Not only that, but Governor Huckabee supported giving scholarships to illegal immigrants. Giving your hard earned tax payer dollars to people who didn't even come here legally.

Why should we think that Huckabee wants to help hard working people in our country when all he wants to do is reward criminals?

Mike Huckabee. Downright Illegal.

Huckabee in Sioux City, IA

"America needs more than slick talk and fancy promises and slogans. We've already seen that and sadly we're seeing it again even in our primary process. What America needs is leadership, not false leadership, but leadership that works, which is why our nominee and the next President needs to be a Governor because Governor's are experienced at running, at managing and governing government. The job of President does not lend itself to on the job training, we've see that disaster these last four years. I am offering myself as that governor, as that candidate and hopefully as that President."

Huckabee Statement on Gov. Mitt Romney's Departure
"Janet and I extend are prayers and best wishes to Mitt and Ann Romney. We wish her a speedy recovery and good health going forward. Our thoughts are with the Romney family at this difficult time."

Reply to Mitt Romney's withdrawal:
I am sad about the reason for Gov. Romney's departure from the race. While he and I do not always agree on policy, he is a good man and I respect him. I wish him and his family well as they go through this very difficult time.

Reply to Ayotte's entrance:
I welcome Sen. Ayotte to the race, and wish her well. I hope that we can keep everything focused on the issues, and not have a negative campaign that hurts everyone.

Women's Week!

This week was a big week for women in the Republican party. Despite Bachmann's continued downfall, Hutchison surged this week after several positive media interviews, plus the critical endorsement of the NRA. Senator Kelly Ayotte, citing the need to fill the void left by Governor Romney, made a late entrance into the campaign, and while her polling numbers are low overall, she is in a strong position to win her homestate of New Hampshire, which could give her the momentum needed to be a serious contender in this race.

George Pataki's campaign appears to be on it's final leg, as his polling has collapsed and almost no funds are coming in. Governor Daniels saw another dip in the polls this week - despite polling strong in every state, he has lost his lead in New Hampshire and is starting to fade in Iowa. Herman Cain continues to run a consistent, solid campaign - this consistency and organization could bode well for his campaign during crunch time. Governor Huckabee continues to lead in Iowa and nationally, though his campaign will also need to revamp if it aims to stop Senator Hutchison.

Hutchison is surging nationally and in key early states

Endorsement Watch
Ron Paul: Iowa Representative Jason Schultz
Mitch Daniels: Senator John Sununu

John Huntsman: Orrin Hatch, Dean Heller

Debate Question: How do the candidates seek to tackle the rising national debt?

Chuck Norris Stumps for Huckabee in Iowa
"Mike Huckabee is the one and only conservative in this race. He stands on a bedrock of principles and beliefs that are the fundamentals of this great nation. To all the candidates in this race I say lookout because Mike Huckabee is going to be the next President of the United States!"

Huckabee: Debate Response
"There is a really simple answer to this question. Stop spending money. Washington is running around like a teenager with a parent's credit cards, and both parties are responsible for contributing to the mess, but over the last three years we've seen this president run up the credit card like there's no tomorrow. The problem is President Obama is an out of control spending liberal. To solve this problem first we need to stop doing what we've done for the past three years, then cap federal spending a certain percentage, and then look to where we can cut. Simply the government needs to stop spending more than we have, instead of piling up the debt for future generations of Americans to pay."

Herman Cain Campaign Week: November 7th-13th

Herman Cain Debate Response:
"Barack Obama has bloated this deficit to levels unimaginable years ago. I believe that we need to cut at least more than the level we are growing the government, which is about 5 Trillion in ten years. It's time we thought seriously also about the future, which is why I believe that bigger cuts is necessary than most of the of other candidates. Also, I have introduced 999, which will be a tax plan that will create economic growth, which will in turn lower the deficit. My plan, unlike those of my fellow serious candidates, will balance the budget within a period of 5 years. I have not seen another plan do something of the same."

"Mitt Romney voters need to stop buying bad baloney from all these other candidates. I am the true heir to the Mitt Romney voters. I have great baloney! *audience laughs* I have the business experience that made Romney viable to voters across this country. I ran Godfather's Pizza, I debated Bill Clinton, and I am ready for this office. I will not be told I can not lead because I don't have relations with Politics. I am not a Politician, I AM A LEADER! NOT A READER!"

Allen West Speech in Florida

"It's time we got off this plantation and vote Herman Cain for President! For too long, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and Harry Reid have put us behind and have let us African Americans struggle in the world of welfare. It's time we embraced individualism, embraced work ethic, embraced tax cuts, and embraced Herman Cain for President!"

Huckabee Ad: Right Values (Running in Iowa/South Carolina)

VO: "The Republican candidate needs to be someone with convictions and a strong sense of morality. Governor Huckabee is steadfast, he is unwavering and committed to life, family, religion and freedom.

Huckabee: I'm prolife because I believe life begins at conception. I support strong families, for they are the bedrock of our society. I believe in the freedom of religion and a rejection of prejudices against those of faith.

VO: Mike Huckabee, a man of principle with the right values to be President.

Right for Iowa,[South Carolina] right for America.

VO: I'm Mike Huckabee and I approve this message.

Huntsman debate response.
If you want a window into what this country is going to look like in the future if we don't get on top of our debt, you are seeing it playing out in Europe right now. You are seeing the negative effect of the banking sector. And what does it mean here? What am I most concerned about? I'm concerned that it impacts us in way that moves into our banking sector where we have got a huge problem called "too big to fail" in this country. We have six banks in this country that combined have assets worth 66 percent of our nation's GDP, $9.4 trillion. These institutions get hit. They have an implied bailout by the taxpayers in this country, and that means that we are setting ourselves up for disaster again. As long as we have banks that are "too big to fail" in this country, we are going to catch the contagion and it's going to hurt us. We have got to quit the bailouts, and make crucial spending cuts in order to avoid the fate of Europe.

Orrin Hatch endorses Jon Huntsman!
“Heading forward into next year’s election, the Republican Party needs a candidate who not only can win, but can lead the nation forward into a new era of common sense conservative policies. I have been blessed to have the very man needed serve as my Governor. I strongly urge all Republicans who like me were once supporters of Governor Romney to unite around Governor Huntsman, so we can defeat President Obama next year and restore responsible government.”

Dean Heller endorses Jon Huntsman!
“Jon Huntsman’s record as a governor, diplomat, husband, father, and man of faith is impeccable. He is a proven conservative with a pragmatic streak that has the experience to get this nation back on the right track.”

Charlie Bass Stumps for Ayotte in New Hampshire
"The reason I endorsed Kelly for president is this, she will bring common sense conservatism to the us.  She will do what we need as a country, and she will undo all of the damage done by this president."

Ayotte: Debate Response
"Obama has completly put our coutnry in the hole.  Yes, other presidents have done this, but he has put in almost 6 Trillion more in debt.  If he gets a second term, we will have twice the national debt than when he started his first term.  If we want to get out of this, we need not only to cut spending, but also reform our tax code so we can create more jobs.  We need to make Barack Obama a one term president."

Announcements, Messages and Other Things:

1.- November 11th, Rally in Des Moines, Iowa:

"2012 must be the year we prove the doubters wrong. The year we strike out boldly not merely to avert national bankruptcy but to say to a new generation that America is still the world's premier land of opportunity. Republicans will speak for those who believe in the dignity and capacity of the individual citizen; who believe that government is meant to serve the people rather than supervise them; who trust Americans enough to tell them the plain truth about the fix we are in, and to lay before them a specific, credible program of change big enough to meet the emergency we are facing."

2.- Debate Response:

"Well, we cannot deter it. We cannot negotiate with it any more than an iceburg or a great white, it's the new red menace, this time consisting of ink. Abolishing the federal debt is our generational assignment, and this fight will require everyone on the front lines. In three short years, an unprecedented explosion of spending, with borrowed money, has added trillions to an already unaffordable national debt. And yet, the President has put us on a course to make it radically worse in the years ahead. The federal government now spends one of every four dollars in the entire economy; it borrows one of every three dollars it spends. No nation, no entity, large or small, public or private, can thrive, or survive intact, with debts as huge as ours. Some people believe we can build a middle class out of government jobs paid for with borrowed dollars. In fact, it works the other way: a government as big and bossy as this one is maintained on the backs of the middle class, and those who hope to join it."

3.- In the News: Senator John Sununu endorses Daniels!:

"I'm endorsing Mitch Daniels because he is a solid republican, committed to conservative values, cutting spending and preserving America's strength. He has demonstrated that he is a very strong candidate to restore fiscal sanity to Washington and defeat President Obama."

Hutchinson at Waterloo Fundraiser
"Its because of people like you that this campaign is possible, thank you! People are tired of the division in Washington, and trust me I share your sentiments! People are listening to our message and for that I have you guys to thank! So far we've managed to keep this campaign about the issues, not about personal attacks and I think that that's beginning to resonate with other elected official.      "With the Recession in full swing and the economy not improving many families are facing tough times. Some have been kicked out of their homes through no fault of their own, they just got down on their luck. We need to assist them. My fellow Americans, if elected I believe we need to assist those down on their luck who are unemployed and homeless. First I will obviously work to improve the economy. More jobs means more workers and fewer unemployed and in general that means a better, more prosperous America. These people can be our brothers, our sisters, our children, or our parents and for us to wash are hands of them on occasions when they were laid off and unable to earn money is despicable. Some people are driven to poverty by their own demons, but others and the majority, get there through bad luck which stems from the bad economy. This is why we need to fix this and I will fix this if elected!"

DEBATE RESPONSE-

"The debt of our nation is hurting many Americans and our children will be paying it off for years unless we do something about it. Its irresponsible to not only let in remain at a high stable amount, but even more so to let it increase like this Administration has done. The debt needs to be taken care of and if elected I will work with members of both parties to find a common sense solution. We need to quit spending so much on some wasteful programs which I believe are clearly unnecessary. Therefore I will applaud and encourage any action taken by Congress, and will in fact put forward my own proposals relating to the issues. As I stated, we need to work on this or our next generation may not be able to reach its true potential thanks to the behemoth that is our debt. No one wants that, I certainly don't and I hope the candidates on this stage are in agreement. Its time for fiscal responsibility in Washington, its time we get rid of the debt."

Jeb Bush:
"I will stand with my parents when it comes to Kay Bailey Hutchinson. There's a lot to like about her. Shes the candidate that represents real change as well as real solutions for America in the future. She has consistently been a committed Republican and yet has always known how to reach across the aisle when necessary. Something we need a whole lot more of in D.C. I know I'm tired of the partisan bickering and just about every American I've met has agreed. Liberals and Conservatives, Republicans and Democrats. Lets stand with the candidate that represents the greatness of America. She'd not only be the first female president but she'd also be one of the best Executives we've had in years. Period."

Mary Fallin:

"As a Governor I put special consideration into the choice of my candidate. While I believe Executive experience is important I believe experience in Washington is equal, if not more important. I endorse Kay Bailey Hutchinson for President of the United States because not only is she a fellow woman (light laughter) but she also will be a partner to all of us governors from Washington D.C. She knows how to transcend political boundaries and is a devoted member of the Senate and she's even from my southern neighbor state (laughter). Join me and Kay Bailey Hutchinson for a better nation today and a brighter future for tomorrow!"

Lindsay Graham:

"Ever since I joined the Senate there was one person who struck me as extremely committed to the American people, that person was Kay Bailey Hutchinson. I've had the utmost honor to have served with her these many years and see how tirelessly she has worked for the American people. She is, in my opinion, one of the best Senators we currently have in office (laughter). But jokes at my expense aside she is the candidate which will lead our party to victory. Not only does she have the experience we need in the Oval Office, but she also has the commitment and energy. She will be a terrific President and will have my support from day 1. So that's why you should vote Kay for President!"

NRA:
"If there's one candidate who we believe will look out for America's 2nd Amendment Rights, we believe its Kay Bailey Hutchinson. While other candidates have seemed committed Kay has the record to prove it and exemplifies the same faith in the 2nd Amendment as we do. If you want an ally in Washington, vote Kay for President!"

The New York Times

Bachmann, Pataki Withdraw!

This week, the Republican Primary had two more causalities in former New York Governor George Pataki and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. While neither was polling strongly, this is expected to be a major boost for both Herman Cain, who was endorsed by Bachmann, and Jon Huntsman, who was endorsed by Pataki. With Pataki out, Huntsman is now the de-facto moderate candidate in the race, and his positioning in New Hampshire appears to be getting stronger by the day.

Additionally, with Bachmann's endorsement, things are certainly looking up for Mr. Cain, as more and more in the Tea Party are beginning to back his campaign. Expect a boost for him in the polls this week.

General Election Match-ups:

Obama: 47%
Huckabee: 43%

Obama: 46%
Daniels: 44%

Obama: 48%
Hutchison: 45%

Obama: 47%
Huntsman: 46%

Obama: 49%
Cain: 42%

Obama: 48%
Paul: 42%

Obama: 49%
Ayotte: 39%

This is not an official update - we are still on November 7th - 13th.

Ron Paul debate answer:
When it comes to the debt, the answer is downsizing the government and actually cutting spending, not cutting future increases in spending. That is one big problem, BASELINE BUDGETING. These cuts in Washington aren't really cuts. The answer is not to raise taxes, but cutting departments, cutting entitlement spending, and excessive and wasteful military spending. We have such partisanship in Washington, the democrats say you can't cut a penny of entitlement spending, and republicans say you can't cut any military spending! We need to be smart with our money. In my plan you can see on my website, I will cut 1 TRILLION dollars each year I am in office. We are on a bankruptcy course, and we can't continue the way we are going.
