My breakdown of potential candidates listed on Wikipedia (except for a few whom I've hear practically nothing about):
Democrats

No chance (may run)
Markell

Markell did float the idea of running for prez in 2016 last year, but since then he's endorsed Joe Biden for 2016 (assuming that Biden runs).  So I think Markell's out as a potential candidate.  (Not that he would have had much chance at the nomination if he had run.)

Interesting, I hadn't caught that. His potential candidacy baffled me: Why on earth would a rumpled and uncharismatic governor of one of the smallest states in the union think that running for president was a good idea?

GOP: Santorum, Gingrich, Huntsman, Perry, everyone in the tea party caucus, Steve King, Bachmann, Marsha Blackburn etc., Palin, Ted Cruz, Allen West, Rob Portman, Ben Carson, Herman Cain and I'm tempted to say Chris Cristie as well.

Dems: Napolitano, Biden, Mike Beebe, Elizabeth Warren, Jerry Brown, Bill Richardson, Howard Dean, Kerry, Villagarosia, Wasserman-Schultz.

President Obama notwithstanding, I don't think a random state legislator from Illinois has a chance of becoming President. Maybe if he can get the keynote speech at a convention Tongue

Man, who does that even leave as possibilities? Like three people?

Definitely not (Democrats):

John Edwards, Rod Blagojevich, Jimmy Carter, anyone now in the House of Representatives.

Definitely not (Republicans):

Dick Cheney, the elder Bush, Neil Bush, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, Rick Scott, Rick Snyder, Bobby Jindal, Mitch McConnell... anyone now in the House of Representatives

George Voinovich and Richard Lugar would have been good in 2000, but the time for either of them is past.
