BREAKING NEWS: Gillibrand Suspends Campaign, Doesn't Endorse Opponent

"As I've traveled this great nation over the past year I've met families that have been calling for help. I am honored by the support that I've received since the start of this campaign. But I recognize that my time is not now, that the people wanted someone else. And so I am suspending my campaign and will work to elect the Democratic Nominee." - New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

"Senator Gillibrand's effectively ends the Democratic Primary. This race, which greatly echoes the one between Former President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton back in 2008, is over. The Governor will now go on to the General Election in November against a greatly weakened Republican Nominee, President Thune."- John King

But I believe that the Governor will lead our party to victory against the failure that is the Thune Administartion. And yes, I am open to serving my country as Vice-Presient, but I doubt I'll be asked."- NJ Sen. Cory Booker to Chuck Todd on NBC's Meet The Press

"For the past few decades our middle class has suffered at the hand of a Government that fails too often. What was once a thriving social system is hitting the bottom, and working families are feeling the pain. This is still the country that my mother worked hard for and Dared to Dream in. And because of that, I'm holding this microphone instead of some mop. I want to give every American that opportunity. Not by the Government providing them with everything, but by providing them with a fair shot at it."- Texas Gov. Julian Castro

I'm liking this already. Thune/Ayotte is definitely a 2016 Republican ticket that could win, and I like the choices you made with some of the new governors/senators. I just wonder how/when Castro picked up the governor's seat in Texas.

I would also love to see one of Grimes/Adelen/Bullock/Carter/Johnson be picked as VP to see if the map could get really get crazy.

The Recap
2016
The Democratic Primary kicked off with a field including Former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Massachussetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, and Virginia Senator Mark Warner. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden surprised many when in early 2015, at a joint Press Conference, they announced they would not run. Schweitzer wins Iowa, Cuomo New Hampshire, and Warner South Carolina. O'Malley drops out after New Hampshire. Elizabeth Warren  drops out after Super Tuesday and endorses Schweitzer. Cuomo drops out at the end of February but doesn't endorse. Warner knocks Schweitzer out after most of Cuomo's supporters go to him and he wins Ohio, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY)
Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA)
Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-MT)
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-MD)

The Republican Primaries include Florida Governor Jeb Bush, South Dakota Senator John Thune, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
Thune wins Iowa and Christie wins New Hampshire. Jindal wins South Carolina and Bush wins Florida, narrowly over Paul. Bush drops out after Florida. Paul wins Nevada and Colorado. Martinez drops out and endorses Christie. Santorum endorses Thune. Thune wins Minnesota and Missouri. Jindal drops out without endorsing. Paul wins Maine and Arizona, Christie wins Michigan. Thune wins Wyoming and Christie wins Washington. After Super Tuesday, Christie endorses Thune after winning only Massachussets and Vermont.

Governor Jeb Bush (R-FL)
Senator John Thune (R-SD)

Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ)
Governor Susana Martinez (R-NM)

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)
Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)
Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA)

The US Economy had begun to gain speed and unemployment sat at 6.4%. The deficit had fallen to about 650 Billion and Presidential Approval stood at 56%. The election never moved more than 2 points in either direction, but on Election Night, the Republicans would be victorious due to Obama-Fatigue and low Democratic Turnout.

Warner/Gillibrand 266 EVs 49.3%
Thune/Ayotte 272 EVs 50.1%

"We now go to Governor Castro holding a mega-rally in San Antonio, Texas. He has with him, 14 potential Vice-Presidential Candidates. It is here where he will announce his pick, and we have no idea who it is. Notably, not among them, is Senator Cory Booker." - Al Sharpton

"My Vice-President will be someone who has fought and will fight for the rights and well being of every American, be it the woodworker at the plant in Charleston, or small business woman in Indianapolis. And so, I nominate an American of great dignity, and someone who will bring real Change to the White House..."- Governor Castro

"Thank's for the introduction Julian. I'm ready to serve. In my two terms at the Little Rock Governor's Mansion and Julian's down in Texas, we've cleaned up the waste and abuse that plagued our homes. And under a Castro Administration, we'll give working families a fair shot at success."- Gov. Halter

"Wow, when Castro picked a Veep from left-field he really meant left-field. I don't think anyone was expecting him to pick Bill Halter. And he turned out to be the best candidate possible. He energized liberals with his populist message, but attracted the white working class turned off by the first Mexican-American nominee. And sure enough, the polls in the next few days showed Castro taking his first lead and bringing the South into play."- Rachel Maddow at a 2021 Forum Discussing the 2020 Election

No-Tossups Map

Gov. Castro (D-TX)/ Gov. Halter (D-AR) 301 EVs
Pres. Thune (R-SD)/ Vice-Pres. Ayotte (R-NH)237 Evs

If The Election For President Were Held Today, And The Choices Were Between Republican Ticket John Thune and Kelly Ayotte, Vs Democratic Ticket Julian Castro and Bill Halter, For Whom Would You Vote?
Thune/Ayotte: 42% -2
Castro/Halter: 47% +3

"I congratulate Governor Castro on the selection of Bill Halter to be his running-mate. But I've no intention of losing this election."- President John Thune

"NBC News has acquired the testimony of a boy who admits to having a... sexual relationship with Vice-President Kelly Ayotte. This boy, aged 14, is a former Senate Page who apparently met the Vice-President while she was presiding over the Senate. This is certainly devastating to the struggling White House, as well as the President's campaign for reelection."- David Gregory

"These rumors are false. I would never disrespect the office, nor my husband and family, like this. I've never been more than friendly to the pages of the Senate.'- VP Ayotte

"Look, after 4 years, I'd like to think I know Kelly. She would never commit such an atrocious act. I stand by my Vice-President in denying the validity of the horrible accusations. She will remain on the ticket in November, and we will both, God-willing, serve another four years helping the American People."- Pres. Thune

I'm confused by this scandal. Did it happen recently or 4 years ago when Ayotte was in the Senate? And if it was 4 years ago, was the boy 14 then or now? Please say then.
