Not a fan of DINO Mercado Kim. Hopefully Takai can catch up to her.

Same. Anti-gay, anti-public education, pro-Monsanto.

If it looks like a Republican, talks like a Republican, and acts like a Republican, then it's probably a Republican pretending to be a Democrat.

If Djou supports gay marriage he has my endorsement, bar a Green run.

Djou does support gay marriage.

Actually, he does not. He only was pro-DADT, but he was also pro-DOMA.

Looking at his other isssues, I'll probably refuse to endorse him too. It's a shame that one of the most liberal states might have to decide between two Republicans.

Looking at Donna Mercado Kim's website , she seems to be a solid progressive on most issues (or at least on the ones she mentions). Also, the website looks very low-tech, possibly hinting at an underfunded campaign. It may still be possible for a more liberal candidate to sneak through to the nomination.

Mercado Kim is certainly not underfunded.

She's anti-gay marriage, appointed a Monsanto shill as the head of the Water Commission, and supports funneling public education funds towards private subsidies.

Actions speak louder than words. She doesn't even deserve to be called a DINO.

She sure makes Hanabusa seem good in comparison, LOL.

But still much more conservative than the conservative Senator from Hawaii. Not that Schatz is conservative, but Hirono is more liberal.

NYT on this race.

This tidbit at the end was worth noting:

The LCV is dropping $156K for Schatz for the week leading up the primary.

Hanabusa was advertising a candidate forum for tomorrow that will be streamed here.

Schatz is coming off as more confident...I'm getting an uneasy/tense vibe from Hanabusa. She's going on the offense more.

Link to video recording of the debate (hopefully it should work). The actual debate starts around the 10 minute mark.

In terms of who won, I'd say it was Lean Schatz. If I were impartial going into it, I'd probably be more impressed with him. Hanabusa improved near the end, but her demeanor was more tense and she didn't make much eye contact with the audience, almost like she was just talking to the moderator.

My biggest issue with Schatz is that he did a ton of name dropping (of Senators he's worked with), he must have named half the Senate. Okay, I get it, you want to work with everyone. It was kinda excessive took and the focus away from Hawaii.

Just my two cents.

I was pretty impressed by both in the debate, so my guess is it isn't going to change very much. I think Hanabusa will ultimately prevail on Election Day, though I expect this to be close. I am surprised Obama chose to endorse here...that's certainly helping Schatz out.

Miles, I would agree with you - it was as if Schatz was trying to show how important he was and how he already has the connections in the Senate. Seemed arrogant to me, but I doubt the average vote would pick up on it.

Here's hoping for a Hanabusa victory in a month!

There's a bit of a backstory there. Back in 2006, Schatz was one of the local leaders in the draft Obama for Pres. movement. Eventually, he became the spokesman for Obama's campaignin HI. Hanabusa, OTOH, was (is) loyal to the Clintons.

If you happen to still be up at 3 AM ET...

The late Rep. Patsy Mink's daughter is supporting Schatz.

Beautiful. Great to see that the real defenders of women's rights (and the daughter of one of feminism's most noble warriors in modern history) are lining up behind the actual pro-choice candidate.

Godspeed, Schatz. I await his defeat of Hobbybusa.

Schatz raised $820K with almost $5M CoH.

Praise The Lord! Praise The Lord!

Is this the first time Emily's List has teamed up with a right-wing Christian Coalition?

I don't think so. They haven't even endorsed Garrison, who's even more loathsome to me than DMK.

But yeah, surprisingly I have no problem with this. Say what you want about DMK on the other issues, but on a woman's choice she's just as good as the rest of the party.

And now that I did a little research it seems Hanabusa did vote for the emergency contraception bill after all. I still have my reservations, but in case of a Hanabusa win, I'll tolerate it.
